Accordion screws
« on: May 03, 2019, 12:37:27 AM »

Its become a bit difficult to find slotted, round head #1 screws of the typical lengths we see holding together so many things on a melodeon.

I've seen them from accordion repair places, but it would be nice to just buy a box and have them. An internet search yielded fairly poor results. Is there somewhere that has a good selection by the box?

He has brass (too soft) and oval head (wrong type) and phillips drive (nope)

I know some factory somewhere still makes steel, of the correct sizes (#0, #1 #2) lengths and SLOT head, but I'm having a hard time finding them.

Anyway, I can buy small quantities from a couple of other accordion supply places like Deffner in the US.  It would be nice to know where they are made, or find an old hardware supplier that still has old stock. They're just screws for goodness sake.

Maybe try woodwind instrument repairers or parts suppliers?
Though I have to admit that when I went to a local wind instrument repair shop for a tiny screw to fix a bass spoon on a Hohner one-row melodeon, they didn't have anything small enough.

You could also look at this site. I just bought some almost microscopic circlips from them (for coupler mechanisms).

'Appen they do, but the Carini website is fairly horrible to navigate and order stuff.

I've been looking for parts on the Carini site, you can find things with a little effort filtering though.
Be prepared to have leftovers ;)
I'm needing 10 buttons I have to buy 50, need 10 springs buy 200 etc.
to bad you can't get less. I didn't get a quote, so it could be discounted enough where it be worth having extra?

I have a carton of reeds that need to go into a melodeon.
Sooner rather than later I'm going to build a box for them (Lightweight 3 voice GC) and I may be able to take some of your spares off your hands.

I'm honestly baffled by how Carini does business... I registered, put things on my "wish list" hoping to see the prices or some kind of pro forma invoice, but despite a couple of letters to them I'm making no headway. must be language barrier issues. my Italian is good enough to pick out pizza toppings...
You'd think they wouldn't be so secretive about the prices.

I know nothing about the working practices of Carini, or any other accordion parts manufacturers/dealers. However, in normal business transactions, we have retail and trade pricing structures, that's how business works.
If we could buy everything we needed without "middle-men", then we could save a fortune, but put thousands upon thousands of people out of work in the process. I wouldn't want that on my conscience for the sake of saving a quid or two here and there. I'm sure there are many retailers who would be willing to supply our needs, one way or another, but at a cost. Profit is NOT a dirty word!

That's not the issue, I think, Winston. I have been in the business of building, repairing, buying and selling stringed instruments (a bit different I know, but related) full time since 1978.  But I am used to wholesale contacts showing me their prices once I have registered with them, given them trade references and showed them my website with over 100K of stock...

You could well be right, then! Maybe they want to protect their current dealer base? Or perhaps they're just poor communicators, who knows?

Did you go past the “wish list” to the  Heart symbol ( which I guess heart , equals cart there)?
I tried the cart symbol and got a blank window, but if you go to the ❤️ ( at the top near the cart ;)) then there is the list of items in your wish list and a request a quote button.

I can’t make heads or tails of the bellows page, its frustrating that translation for the items isn’t available and there is no picture or good explanation in English like the rest of the page! Rant over (:)
