A version of rope waltz in D without accidentals  is in the book  'fourth ceilidh collection'  published by
taigh na Teud  1998   . the 4 books in this series are well worth having

Yes - but with the Caveat "First/Second/Third/Fourth Ceilidh Collection for Fiddlers".
Taigh nan Teud also publsh First and Second Ceilidh Collection for Accordian- These are books of tune settings for the PA and the tune selection is also quite different.

Bit off topic- sorry.

the melodeon is quite happy to play from any  written music in its range of keys or indeed from no music atall.  It won't worry if you don't

My comment isn't about what the melodeon can or can't play it is that these are two different sets of collections, from the same publisher but compiled by different people for different purposes.

My comment isn't about what the melodeon can or can't play it is that these are two different sets of collections, from the same publisher but compiled by different people for different purposes. The fiddle collections are individual tunes, with guitar chords indicated. The accordion book's tunes have a full bass line, are largely arranged as dance sets and could be sight read as such by a pianist/electronic organ player- which is how SCD musicians usually operate.

I too have memories of it from John and Sue's cd, though haven't tried to play it since taking up melodeon.
I've chosen to play it in G, as somehow it sits in my brain in G!
Here's my go.

Finally managed to get the correct version (of my videos) to upload...technological trials and tribulations!

https://youtu.be/hkID4_vWvGQ

The Orkney Rope Waltz played in C on a Hohner Koch G/C (because the B part was very much up the 'squeaky end' on my usual G/D!).

First heard this tune played by concertina-player Roger Edwards - I think at Dartmoor Festival - and remember practicing it lots at the time, on my little Loffet Touptit.

Well remembered.
Sounds great on the Koch. That's a lovely instrument.

Hi folks - here's my version of the Rope Waltz. I will confess to not having listened to anyone else's versions yet this month, so this is *entirely* off my memory of the John Kirkpatrick / Sue Harris version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cyDrTwFZ1U

Played on the Hohner Preciosa in Bb/Eb with a rather natty bass run in the B part which I probably overuse.

I have been playing this tune for some time. First discovered it on a CD by John and Sue Kirkpatrick.

Here's my version which was recorded a few years ago.

No offence to any other contributors, but that is my favourite version so far. I don't like the tune much but I actually like this.

I couldn't make my mind up whether to play it on D or G, so here's both. I've always known this in the version with the accidentals, so you're getting them where possible (I don't have a high G♯ for playing in G).

Usual close-up style so you can study every mistake in detail. I don't think there are enough "wrong notes" to spoil the music with such a lovely tune.

I really liked this, your right hand harmonies added a lot without detracting from the pleasant, galumphy nature of the tune.

The Rope Waltz (in a version with accidentals) as the original Tune of the Month.
I've arranged it together with Milford which is a tune by Andy Cutting of Leveret.

Both tunes have been played in G major. Originally I wanted to play them in D major on the chin end of my box but I didn't find the time to get it to my usual recording standards so I've opted to record it in G instead.

I'm very much looking forward to hearing your feedback. Do those two go together as well as I think they do? Are they too close to each other?

I think they go together very well.
The waltz rhythm was very good in both Milfords and in the reprise of the Rope Waltz but slightly less so in the first appearance of the Rope Waltz.
I liked your bass choices too!

I'm playing all the wrong notes but not necessarily in the wrong order.
