Is Witney happening this year?

I've now had confirmation from Dave Townsend that the Witney Supersqueeze will indeed be going ahead as usual on the weekend of 15th/17th November 2019.  (:)

Tutors so far booked - Andy Cutting, John Spiers, Murray Grainger, Rob Harbron, Keith Kendrick, Sylvia Needham, Dave Townsend. There will almost certainly be a couple of other tutors booked too, but still awaiting confirmation, when Dave will post details on his website.

Not a huge amount for anglo players.

Absolutely Helena.

We (wife and self) had already booked our hotel for that weekend but if there are no additional Anglo tutors might have to think again.

Sorry, guess that was an unnecessarily irritable reply, especially on a Melodeon Forum.

No doubt there will be the usual mixed systems workshops and good ambience throughout, so we will give it a whirl (my ever-loving is not a melodeon player but we do like doing workshops together with either English or Anglo concertinas, especially the latter).

We were thinking of going, I used to go to the old MAW but my partner has never been.  We need to be sure there's stuff for both of us - he'd go for intermediate melodeon workshops while I'd head for the higher level stuff so we need to be sure there's enough for both of us - as I've just taken up the Anglo we were thinking this might be the year to try the new format.  I guess not  :(

Why don't you both wait until the course units are notified?
At this stage there is no indication of what ability level the anglo units will be taught at. You might be pleasantly surprised. Last year it was very good for all instruments and levels. Dave Townsend does his best to try to cater for everyone.

Alternatively, contact Dave to ask for further details and/or express your concern that there might not be enough for anglo players.

Do we get that luxury again? The last couple of times I went you had to pay your money early and then wait for the units to be announced with places then being awarded in booking order. That kinda worked when it was a purely melodeon weekend as there were pretty much always first and second choices for each session.

This became more of a gamble when it changed to a multi-instrument weekend - especially with two of us at different levels and with different preferences.

Either way only one tutor for Anglo, especially one who is also tutoring English Concertina, does not suggest there will be a great deal for Anglo players.

All I can tell you at this stage is what Dave T said to me, and I quote: "Booking isn't open yet as I am still finalizing units"
This suggests to me that the details of the course units will be available at the same time as booking is open. But I could be wrong of course.

I’m really hoping to go to this as it’s very local to me. I was planning to go for English Concertina but having just this week decided to change to melodeon I’m going to be working hard to get good enough in time. EC is basically hurting me to play due to arthritic little fingers and slightly dodgy right thumb which isn’t liking the strain of working bellows. Have got a friend’s melodeon on loan and loving it!

The website is now up and running except that booking is impossible. It requires an unknown password to enter. Has anyone been successful?

The website information has been in place for a while, but I suspect that booking is not yet ready and activated. The password requirement should disappear once booking is fully open.
If in any doubt, e-mail Dave Townsend:

Yay, I’ve booked up and paid - eeek. Only been playing since August but I’m using chords and doing a bit of cross rowing stuff so I reckon I’ll be fine. It’s not the first instrument I’ve played so I think that’s helping and I’ve got a bit of time to practice before the weekend!

Some good stuff. Serendipitously, we were already planning to be over at that time and have that weekend free. So I've booked. Last trip of the year.
