c box

hi i have just bought a c box i think. thats what it said it was anyway, from ebay ,proberly not a god idear as i no nothing about them , i am looking to buy a dg melodion also but proberly not from ebay ,any way the c box melodion has arrived but i cant get any notes out of it on button side, the bellows are in good condition and the other side works any advise please

Has it got stops? They are knobs on the top of the box on the treble side, which switch different banks of reeds in and out. You need to pull them UP to get the reeds to sound... Different combinations will give you different sounds. Depending on the box, there will be 1, 2, 3 or 4 stops.

If it has 4 door knob type things on the right hand side you might have to pull them up. This opens the stops and lets air through. Perhaps a picture of your box might help diagnose any obvious problems.

Edit: beaten to the stops conclusion!

In the end I managed to slip some fairly stout cardboard between the wooden blocks and the body of the box, which causes enough friction to keep the stops up. Probably won't last for ever, but it took ten minutes, cardboard is cheap and it doesn't attract wasps. (Bella, you'll have to read the thread jb linked to if you want to know what we are burbling about!)
