Poll: Tune of the Month for July 2019
« on: June 25, 2019, 09:32:50 AM »

Hello all! I should be doing school paperwork for Ofsted coming in 2 days, but instead I'd much rather be doing this! So this month's 4 options:

100 Pipers - last month's runners up - an old one I used to play which turns up in Lester's veritable encyclopedia of tunes. A classic Scottish jig - https://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.com/2015/05/tune-414-100-pipers.html

Morrisons Jig - never thought of this as anything other than a straight irish jig, but here's Gilles Poutoux showing us what you can do on a 1 row in D: https://youtu.be/3OKgKv8haoo?t=524 . If you start the video at the start he takes you through the whole tune, bit by bit.

Mazurka Des Ecoliers - I'll admit it, this is just an excuse to watch this video again, Cyrille Brotto's magnificent interpretation of Gilles Chabanat's mazurka (tune kind of starts about 53 seconds in). Here's a rather 'straighter' version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3SsHrdytq0 which represents the original tune a bit better.

Tich's Reel - horribly recorded, but beautifully played, comes this version from the wonderful Ed Rennie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AR_GMPvnuw

Thanks everyone - back to the paperwork!
