TONY HALL THIS FRIDAY - HADLEIGH SUFFOLK
« on: July 03, 2019, 07:11:57 AM »

TONY HALL is the main guest at Hadleigh Folk and Acoustic Music Nights, this Friday (5th July). Tony doesn't perform that often in public, but he's still a great player.

More details on club website: https://www.hadleighfolk.org.uk

This is Hadleigh Suffolk (not Essex) off the A12 between Ipswich and Colchester.

Love Tony Hall's playing. Someone (I think it was Anahata) recommended him to me. Excellent. Wish I was closer.

I'm so very jealous.
I'd pay for videos to be taken and uploaded to youtube as there's barely anything of his Hallship available.

As a side note, it appears that Mr. Hall was born in my area of the world, it's a shame (for me at least) he didn't stay here ;D

Do you have a Hohner from 1934-1945 with a serial number on?

Just in case you were not aware he has done some CD's Eshed, One Man Hand and Fieldvole Music being solo's and as part of the Trunch New Coronation Band (sp) he appears on some early Kipper Family records

A brilliant self taught player unhampered by convention and his 'day job' as a cartoonist is of similar calibre

('tis not often a Norfolk man is this complimentary of someone from that place the other side of the Waveney, well it's not often we get the opportunity  :o - and of course we are also fortunate in having our own Katie Howson and folkblues & beyond following that fine tradition of those Suffolk players who have departed to that great squeezery in the sky)

Thank you! I was aware of the CDs (part of why I'm so jealous!) but not of the Kipper Family.

Indeed, I have scoured youtube and found a few!

here the sound quality is unfortunately not very good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbcme2n8USE

(Many thanks for folk blues & beyond for uploading some of these)
And here's a nice short documentary, mostly about the cartoonist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzvt8AnkdaY

With some luck I'll visit the UK again some day and get to meet the legend in person  :||:
'til then youtube and CDs are what I got...

Thanks Alan, how could I forget Mr Universe ;)

Shame they don't appear to have produced collations of his cartoons like the Giles annuals did

This (Pete Dello's / Joe Cocker's "Do I Still Figure in Your Life?") is a great candidate for the "pop music on melodeon" thread! I love that he manages to play a C#dim7 chord! (Maybe the only dim7 you can readily play on a D/G melodeon - a bit of a happy accident of the layout.)
