Modern Tuning Devices- Where do I start?
Peadar:
I own a very basic mobile phone with a pay as you go SIM. I own a circa 2015 smartphone which once had a data only contract (long cancelled). These days I only use it for videos and e-mail through wi-fi (mostly of those self same videos). For work purposes I carry a smartphone which belongs to my employer....
I also own a Korg tuner (also circa 2015) which has vastly improved my fiddle tuning - this tells me what note I am on (though not the Octave). It can be calibrated to any frequency for A, and reads to a precision about +/- 1 cent (not the same thing as accuracy). What it doesn't tell me is absolute frequency and clearly it doesn't pick out multiple frequencies.
So the question is- can anyone point me to a tuner that would let me deal directly in Herz and that my limited smartphone equipment and capabilities might be able to access?
Lester:
The one we normally recommend is the Peterson iStroboSoft Tuner which runs on both Android and Apple. Depending on how out of date your phone is oit may still be compatible, doesn't need a connection other than to download which you can do over wifi.
Apple
Android
Peadar:
Thanks - I will give it a go. Don't fancy investing in a phone contract just to get a tuning app.

I also had a Korg tuner, but needed the octave feature. I now use the Peterson thing on a specially procured smartphone. It's good!
However, this "Dirks" gadget seems to be the ticket for doing chords properly, also I'd imagine multi-voice tuning. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to get hold of this, maybe an out-of-date version, if there is such a thing?

No such thing as an out of date version - the labourer is worthy of his hire
