Not necessarily. The Bb/G# accidental is a moveable feast from Castagnari. It can be either way round, depending how the reeds come with the scribed diagonal from the maker (Voci Armoniche).

My Mory and 1914 boxes both have it as Bb/G#, but my wife's Laura is G#/Bb. A Sander which I owned some years ago was also G#/Bb. I marginally prefer the Bb on the push as it enables me to play more easily in G minor (not something I do regularly, I hasten to point out).

That is actually very interesting! A Bb and F in the same direction can be a nice perk of a 'mixed' arrangement such as the Laura & Sander had, so there are some benefits. So, I imagine there must be people out there who are looking for precisely that system.

In any case, I believe the (new) Castagnari instruments I played when I visited Pete earlier this year had (if they were a DG) a push Bb - the Tommy I played definitely did. My only thought is that, in the past when aiming to buy something online, I have been 'burnt' more by incorrect information than by no information, so, I have this lingering feeling of 'some caution could be important here'.

Two points:
1. If at all possible, try before you buy. In the UK, on-line purchases may be legally returned within two weeks minimum; many sellers will offer longer.  Pete refers to this in the Acorn Instruments terms and conditions (see section 13).

2. If the accidentals are the wrong way round in an otherwise great instrument, it's easy to flip them to what you want. Also just as easy to flip them back again if you decide to change your mind.

Two points

So, these are two vary salient and correct things, that I am aware of and would hope everyone else is too. Plus, I also would have the utmost confidence that if there was ever any issue, that Pete would have it sorted.

But, you know, I don't think anyone would want to have to deal with little mistakes that could get in the way of enjoying what could be a multi thousand dollar purchase. Especially if having to ship the item twice puts it at risk. That's all I'm trying to say.

I think I should clarify things once and for all re layout.

I accept that there are a few things not quite correct,Michael took these from the Castagnari web site,I think the Stephania one is wrong.
We have decided, because of time, that we will check the whole lot as we set up at Whitby where all the instruments will be on display.and correct the mistakes over the weekend.

Re purchasing,I do take instruments back up to 14 days however there is a caviat that it should be only played as if you were in a shop,ie not taken to every session going then returned .also any damage will be deducted from the refund, all clearly detailed on web site

To avoid this, when ordering a new instrument from anywhere and any manufacturer...

(1) be absolutely sure beforehand what you want in terms of accidentals/layout etc., and...

(2) state this along with your order, very clearly, several times, in different formats, diagrams, Italian reed numbers if appropriate, reed octaves, languages in Italian, French, German etc., as well as English, and so on. You may need to do a bit of research or ask for help to find out how to describe what you need, and it may seem like overkill, but it's better to spend a bit of time doing this rather than have an instrument turn up with an 'incorrect' layout because you weren't completely clear in your specifications!  :Ph

That sounds like a good idea - perhaps it would also be beneficial to include a 'last checked' date, too.

In any case, the new website is definitely neat, and I hope you have a good time at Whitby!
