I shall be disappointed if no one posts the "29th of May" or Tideswell Processional.

Hello,

An Italian Rant & The Carpathian Tune:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_SKRMK-WiQ

After recording the TOTM, I decided to have a go at this month's theme anyway as a little extra bonus video - a nice little border morris combo of E minor tunes. I missed out on An Italian Rant a few months ago, and figured I'd sneak it in here - I haven't quite mastered the right hand chords yet and my phone was getting warm again, so, once again it dropped a load of frames - not exactly peak performance. I believe both tunes are used by Boggart's Breakfast, and the latter & it's attached dance 'BlueJay' has made it's way into Anonymous Morris' repertoire which I also have a video of here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Zp99H2CMkU

Smiffs do the original Upton dance -- with a few minor changes...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWbl5m0RdTA

This looks so crisp, a superb performance. I do however feel compelled to comment that, continuing to stick when it's exploding in your hand like that and onto the audience can easily cost you your wristband around here...

Thanks all - new theme coming along in a minute! As usual, stick late contributions on the end of the thread.

Yeah well that was Edd Joe 90 [same comments apply], he's a bit of a stick murderer, has been known to get through more than one in a dance when he gets carried away. We sometimes try and calm him down a bit but he doesn't listen...

Just before Christmas last year I was fooling about at the practice session and busked Good King Wenceslas.  The lads then danced an impromptu stick dance to it.  Adderbury I think it was, but I’m no judge.

Not wishing to burst your bubble but they've been doing that dance for years :)

Well, nobody told me.

The Christmas dances stopped a year or so before you joined - on the grounds that doing one gig a year in the freezing cold that involved bending perfectly good dances around tunes that don't quite fit was not very enjoyable. At least that's the summary version of the discussion.

The generic Adderbury/Good King Wenceslas combo is one that does fit well though, consequently lots of teams do it.

I have been trying to find out more about this tune - without success - so any more information would be appreciated. I assume there was a dance (solo jig?) that went went it originally.  South Downs Morris team were based is Brighton, and I believe Jim Harding was the squire.

Chris - this was Tune of the Month in October 2012. There's a fair bit of discussion about it in that thread so probably worth your while to work through it. Jim Harding wrote it.
