Tune of the Month for October 2019: Leyas Vaggvisa
« on: September 30, 2019, 10:32:02 PM »

Hi all! Looks like I've got a new tune to learn!

Leyas Vaggvisa - Lars Karlsson (fine swedish accordionist) wrote this lovely piece. Thank you to Janneke for suggesting (and playing) it: https://youtu.be/46FjFUrhL3Q ... and for superimposing the sheet music over the video :-)

Here's the composer playing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8TBDrqJve8

Off to learn it myself...

Enjoy!

Clive

Not quite sure what to make of this one. One and an out-take, twice through each.

I am working on Leyas Vaggvisa in D, on a DG.

Any suggestions about what to do about the chord to put over the C# in bar 11 (=B in the original key of C).
On a standard GC, the tune works on the inside row key of C. The chord played is E major.

If I played it on the inside row of a DG, the equivalent chord would be the B major. But, the tune is definitely squeaky, pitched  in the key of G.

So, on my DG, playing on the outside row, I need to match the C# with F# major, to play the harmony Lars' band uses. Trouble is, C# is only available on the pull. My F# chord is only available on the push (it's also F#m, but that's another issue).
The notes of F# major are F#, A# (aka Bb) and D# (aka Eb). I haven't got a D# available, in the right direction, to make a right hand chord.

Can anyone think of a way of faking it, or shall I abandon the idea?

How have you got a F# chord on a DG?

I have a 12 bass  Saltarelle with an F#minor/F major combination, in the wrong directions to help  :(

I suppose I could play a  right hand two note combination with just F# and A#, without the 5th. I'm not sure I could reach, though

I've run through it a few times now; it seems to sit more easily on the inside row, than the outside. Still working on it though; I'm not fully inspired yet, and my video is someway off.

I've been experimenting with playing it in C on a C/F Club.
The E major chord (when playing in C) is available as a simple RH triad, though I'm undecided as to how to work that into the flow of the tune and harmony without too much of a discontinuity in texture. (mainly because of the missing bass note.)

Incidentally, in several other places, I've found the gleichton useful.

This time with 100% extra Fred for free. (Yay! :||: :||:) https://youtu.be/28K-KkhlcjM

As a side note, the fun in this month was much more to do with working with Fred than with the tune itself.

Do you have a Hohner from 1934-1945 with a serial number on?

I didn't see that one coming. Brilliant! Love the way you've shaken the tune awake.  Love it.

I should be writing a school report, but instead...

Here's my take on this. I've flattened it into 4/4 and played it like a Nordic bridal march, on the Streb with church organ samples :-)

I may have overdone things a bit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0cLUbp70k8&feature=youtu.be

It's played in Bb/Eb on the inside (middle) row.
