ABC editor for Mac?
« on: October 06, 2019, 10:08:16 AM »

I'm struggling to get Tunebook as I use on my iPad to function on my MacBook, and can't even get EasyABC to install... any advice on what to use for an ABC editor on a Mac?

Thanks!

I use EasyABC on both my MacBook and iMac (And W10 PC) so not sure why you can't install them. I'm running the latest Mojave but it has run on all the previous versions.

On my quite old MacBook I did use Tunebook for years, but now, since a couple of years, on my 3 years old MacBook Air EasyABC (version 1.3.7.5) works better ... ymmv ...

Unfortunately I have no understanding about install and technical issues.

When I downloaded the program from the source above, I got a folder with nothing obvious to double click on to install. I'm a complete numpty when it comes to anything to do with IT, so I would really appreciate someone kind and gentle to talk me through it!

Steve,

On the page at https://sourceforge.net/projects/easyabc there's a tab called "Files" (between summary and review). Click Files then EasyABC then 1.3.7.7 which gets you to EasyABC_1.3.7.7.dmg.  Or go directly to https://sourceforge.net/projects/easyabc/files/EasyABC/1.3.7.7/

Click on this and the .dmg file will be downloaded to your downloads directory.

Hope this helps.

I'm wondering if the OP has googled EasyABC and followed the long out of date (top hit in my browser) link to Nils Lyberg's page which is years old now and is installing a defunct version of the program.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I was going to SourceForge for EasyABC, and eventually succeeded in downloading and installing it as guided by Mitch :-)

Now my Mac wants to update itself to Mac OS Catalina, and if I click towards going ahead get a warning message that "The following apps are not optimised and will require an update to work" - you guessed it, EasyABC  ::)

Yes, CATALINA is 64 bit ... better to wait for a 64 bit compatible EasyABC before upgrading to CATALINA ...
