Strange repair
Pete Dunk:
Investigating loose and rattling reeds blocks in the bass end of a Corona II, I was surprised to find the beech/hornbeam retaining blocks at either end of the reed blocks cracked and canted back away from the blocks allowing them to slide around. I removed the bass end cover and was more than a little purturbed to find two strips of black gaffa tape covering the areas where the blocks were fixed on the other side. Gaffa tape is a pig to remove at the best of times, this had been there for a while and was almost welded to the plywood "fondo". An hour or so passed, several words were spoken and the gaffa tape was picked off, fragment by tiny fragment, revealing a few small screws and two staples from a staple gun which had been used to try and fix the blocks in place. A triumph of ham fisted stupidity.
The damage to the fondo required a glued repair and I decide to drill through both blocks and bolt them through the fondo to make a strong and permanent repair. It's playing like a good 'un now, and with a brand new set of bellows it's very airtight. Pics will appear in this post and the next as they won't all attach in one post.

Although gaffer tape got the Apollo program out of trouble on at least two occasions...and it’s great for busted wing mirrors... >:E
Pete Dunk:
All of that effort and so little to show for it!

It wasn't me, Mister!
