Poll: Tune of the Month for December 2019
« on: November 26, 2019, 09:05:04 PM »

Evening all - last poll of the year; what shall we play in December?

Hunt the Squirrel - taking the traditional runners up slot - a 32 bar straight down the line jig - here played by Saul Bailey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idZawIDMafs

Mr Cunningham's Maggot - thank you Janneke for the suggestion, this tune is by Ollie King and appears on his first CD, Gambit. Ollie's video is no longer on youtube, so as a next best thing, here's Mr Cunningham playing it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp6lFxxbbPA

Tom Mellin's Hornpipe - do you know I nearly learned this as my hornpipe for this month's Theme of the Month? I only had an ABC to work off - didn't know that Saul had already recorded it, but yes he has, and here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9MSbA25C-0 The version I had in mind was rather less sophisticated, and didn't need all those fancy accidentals as I recall!

The Northern Lass - another lovely old tune, played by Andy Cutting on the Banquet of Boxes album as I recall. Here's Peter's version, filmed nice and close up for easy following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ9YVzVwh9s Just don't listen to it on a single right earphone while watching TV like I just did!

Cheers,

Clive

All really good tunes. And strong performances to learn from. I've taken my pick.
