Barfly Updated
« on: November 07, 2019, 11:59:44 AM »

I spotted this in the Facebook ABC Notation Users' Group and thought it might be of interest.

Phil Taylor, creator of BarFly (a great ABC application for Mac that was no longer compatible after MacOS 10.6.8) said:

I’m writing to you to let you know that I’ve been doing some work on the program recently, and now have a first beta version which runs under Mojave (and previous versions of OSX back to Snow Leopard).

If you’re no longer interested then please ignore this message (sorry to have bothered you), but otherwise you can download it here:-

Please note that:

It’s not code signed, so your system will tell you that it’s by an unknown developer.  Of course it has no malicious code in it but you’ll have to trust me on that.  The first time you run it, right-click on the app and choose ‘Open’.  This gives you the opportunity to override Gatekeeper, after which it will run normally.

It’s 32 bit code, so recent versions of OSX will occasionally tell you that it’s not optimized for this system.

For the same reason, it won’t run on OSX Catalina (Apple are about to kill it all over again).

If you’ve never used BarFly before, start by opening up the Start Here! file from the BarFly Help menu and read on!

I have not had time to update the help files yet (they are very extensive), but most of the stuff in there still applies.

It does not need to be registered, it’s free and will remain free.

If you want to be kept informed, please reply to this message and I’ll add you to my new mailing list.

Cheers

Phil Taylor

That's good news - Barfly was always my preferred ABC software.
However, I note Phil Taylor's comment that OS Catalina (already released) will not support the new 32-bit Barfly  ::). Perhaps Pete, you could persuade him to getting busy on a 64-bit version!?  (:)
