Barley Cote Band
« on: December 16, 2019, 05:58:28 PM »

A bit of shameless self promotion, but I am quite ridiculously chuffed with this recording of the ceilidh band band Mary Humphreys and I started last year with fiddle-playing melnetter Chris Partington. This was recorded off the PA when we were playing a few tunes before the dancing started at a Ryburn 3 Step ceilidh last Saturday.

https://barleycoteband.co.uk/hear.php - 4th tune, Walter Bulwer's Polkas.

Very well known tunes, and don't expect any more musical finesse than absolutely necessary. We have never even rehearsed these tunes as a band. But there's something about the rhythm (and the way Chris and I are thinking along the same musical lines) that makes it all I've ever wanted in an English ceilidh band.

The other tracks on that page are OK, but are earlier home studio recordings that don't take off in quite the same way, possibly because one or other of us wasn't so familiar with the tunes we were playing at the time and we were being more careful.

Enjoy! (I hope)

Most enjoyable, the waltzes sound almost Scandinavian.

Very much enjoyed listening to all the tunes. Lovely bounce and energy...Walter B really made me want to get up and dance such lift to it.

Having often wondered what some of the old timers like Walter Bulwer (and for that matter Walter Pardon) were like in their heyday I suspect you Mary and Chris have given us more than a flavour with that rendering Anahata - Thanks :)
