Poll: Tune of the Month for March 2020
« on: February 23, 2020, 05:04:34 PM »

Hi all - this month's selection

- Mourisque - last month's runner up, and one of those tunes that everyone knows but no-one knows the name of! -Lester's got a nice version of it, with ever so convenient ABC, here: https://lesters-tune-a-day.blogspot.com/2012/10/tune-61-la-mourisque.html

- New Pneus - we have a couple of suggestions this month, of which the first one (thanks Arty) is Andy Cutting's tune. A schottische I think? Here's Derek's version really close up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOccAq8xaFk and indeed here's Andy himself playing it (less clear to see what's going on in this one) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GktB4WQ-6M

- Reel de Ste Anne - thanks for the 2 suggestions Graham; I'm going to go with this one, so ably played by Serge Carrier (great channel) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ChU75pxDWE;

- Ganivelle - a lovely schottische written by Fred Paris; this one's been in the poll before, and I'm surprised it didn't win! So let's try again:  here's Anahata playing it through with the even more widely played Canal in October: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Fr6N2nuz8

Happy voting!

La Morrisque, a French Renaissance social dance originally published in 1589 in Thoinot Arbeau's Orchesographie.

Damn, this time I would have ticked all four boxes but the system prohibits such behaviour. :(

Any of you clever peops out there able to put up the abc for the Serge Carrier version of St Annes, please, pretty please? I have New Pneus somewhere already in the unlikely event of that winning. Cheers.

Not sure it's exactly the Serge Carrier version, but this is Reel St anne from this site (a go-to site for Quebec tunes) - also several recordings at the bottom of the page:

Mourisque (La Mouresque or whatever) is one of the mightiest tunes of the Early Music canon often reduced , by an additional note in the first phrase, to a diddly type tune. Played straight, it's a magnificent anthemic wall of sound. I wish it was in the lead  :(

Even though there's a clear favourite, I'm still amazed that the votes are so close.
