...there used to be bugs in the Adobe PDF reader that could be exploited by carefully crafted PDF
 contents to make it  do things it shouldn't, such as extract and run an executable payload. I think
most PDF readers are fairly safe now...
FWIW, about 3/4 years ago, I heard a tale that some Adobe software had itself been 'carefully crafted'
by the nice people at Adobe to: 1) extract personal information from your computer and send it back
to Adobe, and 2) interfere with the operating system itself (Windows). I had this tale from some-one
who is pretty knowledgeable about this 'nuts and bolts' level of computing, so I'm inclined to give the
story some credence.

I now have no Adobe software on any of my machines. For a PDF reader I use Sumatra (from the
https://portableapps.com site), and have never had any problems - it's small and fast...

As this thread is related to MuseScore, I should add that MuseScore is also available via PortableApps.

(except for a VM running Windows XP for Melodyne in the studio...)
