Advice please - Shipping from the US to UK
« on: January 23, 2020, 07:01:31 PM »

Apologies, not strictly melodeon-related but ........

My wife is trying to purchase some items for her harp (yep, we know we are heading in opposite directions!) from its maker in the US. On approx US250 worth of goods (not large or heavy), they've quoted her over USD100 to ship to the UK. And that's before VAT and any duty is added in the UK!

Is it just expensive shipping stuff out of the US? We don't know who they are using, but can anyone suggest any cost-effective options to look at?

Thanks

I've just send a two row melodeon to the USA shipping cost around £75.  So $100 for a harp seems reasonable.

However she is ordering just a two piece wooden stand and a set of strings, rather than a full harp :(
But if that is the going rate........

I have shipped stuff to my son in Boston, and he has then forwarded the goods to me. labelled as gifts. Worked OK, not guaranteed to work every time.

That's about average from the states. You get charged the same for anything from 1kg to 25kg. Have a look here https://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/uk-import/from-usa/?gclid=Cj0KCQiApaXxBRDNARIsAGFdaB_0cB8j9fEv3ZquYolwvJ_wyaasZnOhgctlh-Ji0o_hSBd4wAOqcwwaAmu8EALw_wcB

It has gotten real expensive to ship in the US in the last decade.
