Hm. I might have missed something here. In how far is this link related to melodeon.net Theme of the Month? I mean, I understand that the tune has water in its name. I'm just wondering why your link isn't a melodeon video? Just to show the tune exists and to give inspiration to others to play it? Or maybe you wanted to post another link (e.g. of your recording) and confound them?

Here's a run through of The Water is Wide - with that countermelody. Nothing special, just as it came out. Storm blasting in background.

Here's Morecambe Bay by Pat Shaw, written in 1972 for a dance of the same name.
https://youtu.be/T9FWYMNwyqA

Quite a bit of cross-rowing to match the G chords and A chords and the Cnat in the B music.  I often use the D reversal on the half row but in this tune the E reversal gets a bit of use as it's needed against a G chord in bar 4 of the A music but the same bit of melody in bar 4 of the B music has an Em so doesn't need the reversal.

Jolly good jolly playing. I like that flat 7 chord in the B section too. Very Malcolm Arnold.

Here's a tune by Nick Barber that suits the theme nicely: The English Channel

My entry for water-related geography; Summer on Marshall Pond, composed by Pam Weeks, a fiddler and Appalachian dulcimer player from Maine. This tune is on her CD 'Waiting for the Perseids'.
Apropos of another thread, I would like to say that my Salterelle is a pleasure to play again now that Theo has re-waxed my bass reeds. Thanks Theo.

Over the Waterfall, an American reel learned from the late lamented Paul Havell way back in the days of Tettenhall Dick. Apparently also known as The Lad that Looked Like Me. The aforementioned Lad was obviously closely acquainted with The Dark Girl Dressed In Blue.

Here's one I prepared earlier (as usual due to non-playing at the mo).
The Trowie Burn, just deep enough to dip my toe in. With Keith Ryan on fiddle . . .

Those John Stickle tunes are so wonderfully odd. Another of my favorites, Waterman's Hornpipe, was also collected from him (come to think of it, that would also fit this month's theme!).

There’s loads of Cajun /Creole tunes for this one, plenty of places beginning with the word ‘Lake’:
Lake Charles, Lake Arthur, Lake Martin… etc

This one is Lake Charles Waltz as its not a standard tune I don’t get to play it that often.
The original taken from Ed Poullard / Les Amis Creole

My totm/thotm posts have been somewhat sporadic recently, and my melodeon progression hasn’t been great recently, but I’ve been starting to enjoy playing more over the last couple of weeks. I started on this tune thanks to Sir John’s earlier recommendation, and then Ian’s wonderful version (by which I’m very impressed and I suppose somewhat influenced….) got in before me.
So, once again, Midnight on the Water…

Here's my take on this, a tune I've learned off my friends at our local fiddle club (I dabble), Flatwater Fran

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAtHHZen5fU

It's a Phil Cunningham tune, and it does fit on the melodeon really nicely. It's got a bit of a mazurka feel to it too.

Because it's a bit blowy here, and I didn't fancy my chances of getting an acoustic recording with a howling gale on around me, and also because I wanted to mess around a bit with midi on the Streb, here it is, played on the Streb, but sounding very, very different.

I'm using the ocarina sound on the midi synth, and the Streb as a wind midi device - something it's *very* good at. I've got basses going to 'bandoneon', which I admit is a poor sample, but that's the fault of the DAW software, not the Streb. I've mixed them *way* back in the mix, and added a piano track (I'm working on my piano at the moment, and my playing is basic to say the least, so putting an accompaniment to this was quite achievement for me).

... so we end up with something very different. It is just one melodeon, and one piano line though.

By the way, does anyone have a *good* set of melodeon samples (as a VST instrument)? All the ones I come across are useless, and I think the internal Streb samples beat them hands down.

A sort of Two for the price of one....The tune is Loch Liobhan, shot on location en-route to Melodeon Playgroup.
The mountain in the video (that's January sorted!) is Beinn Donail.
A bit of unplanned improvisation in the middle - but I was in the middle of the Loch....OK on a half-island in the middle of the Loch and it was freezing. There is also a guest appearance by Deo.

Here's a waltz, "Sur le bord de la Riviere," followed by a bourree, "Les filles de St. Nicholas."

Here's a work in progress video of 'Banks of the Dee' that I've decided to shoehorn into this month's ThoTM - I've decided I need to push myself to record and share more stuff in the drive to play better.

This was a test video using not one but two new toys, firstly my beautiful new (old) Saltarelle Pastourelle, secondly a test for my new Surface Go inbuilt mic and camera. I think part of the reason I don't record stuff is the faff of setting up the webcam and H2 recorder with the laptop so I wanted to test what this little tablet could do with no auxiliary kit.

I will aim to polish it up a bit and post again by the end of the month but in the meantime here's Banks of the Dee recorded during storm Dennis yesterday.

Well, Helena, that's a lot of toys - and it seems they all work very well indeed. I'm also aware that my background is cluttered, so well done on having a tidy environment too. Look forward to more.
