I've always wondered how high as a lady I should have the melodeon resting to avoid any...accidents.

Even as a man, I discovered this morning that topless playing of instruments with bellows can be a very hazardous thing.

LDT - thank you for the nice comment on youtube. I've no idea how to reply to you there so I'll do it here! I think your version is better because you've actually managed to keep it to the same tempo throughout. I speed up when I get to easier bits then slow down again!  :(  :-\

I was FAR too excited about filming! I used my phone to record it! Not bad quality for that! Think I may need to get a proper camera with mic if I'm gonna do more of this. I like being a youtube star!  ;)  ;D

I've posted another clip from yesterday which is slightly worse but includes the silly faces I pull when playing. I had complaints about the other one for looking too serious!

I really like your version, Ian. Great tempo and nice variations from what is usually played. As LDT has commented, very laid back and groovy. I especially like the stops near the end. Thanks for posting this. I am inspired.  (:)

It's good. You are coming along nicely. I like the way you leave the tune 'unresolved' at the end, whether you intended it or not.  ;)

Well, I was skeptical about StP, but I am really, really enjoying all these fantastic videos turning up on YouTube. Such variation already! And it's great to see that the beginners are pitching in enthusiastically too.

If more session tunes were played like this the world would be a better place!

I recognise you as well from Whitsun in Bampton last year - you played some music in the Morris in the afternoon? (I wasnt there at the time) Someone thought you were Saul Rose ...

Thanks Steve... I really like your mix of tunes too...
STP is one of those tunes that has a groove to it ... i hate it when its played 100 miles an hour in sessions.
My inspiration for it was the Oyster Bands version on '20 Golden Tie-Slackeners'  especially the long stops in the B.. at one point during the stop a guitar comes in with 'Barnacle Bill'.. its always brought a smile to my face.

Cool use of the left end, breaking it up into block chords. You did just one pull/push reversal playing B music against an Em chord blocked x 3. That can be expanded easily, in several ways.

    • play as block chords but change them | Em pull | D pull | C pull | Note the descending bass line. You are already moving bass about = this now 'puts it in charge'
    • as above but mix D pull with +Em chord, then even C pull +Em. These cross chords are an easy way to 'jazz' it slightly and better not used at the start - wait until the tune is firmly in the listener's head!
    • 3 as per 2 but hold Em down and do a walking bass E>D>C It uses quite a lot of air and feels strange at first but well worth learning - as useful in lots of tunes
    • 4. pick and mix these with the push version (as you do) :D Chris

Thanks for that Chris but I'm not sure what you mean with "block chords" .. you note that I'm "breaking it up into block chords" . I'm sure you're right .. but I'm not sure what this means???  (:)

Very impressed indeed with Steve_freereeder's Speed the plough set. It really is very good. The playing is excellent. Is the audio only thing easier than video as well?
    Thanks!  (:)
The reason I've done audio-only is that I don't have a video camera. But I do have a couple of decent mics.....

Here's another one. Not really sure what I'm doing (especially with my left hand), but you've got to start somewhere, I guess:

Just getting my scary first post over and done with  ::). I'm not brave enough to post my playing yet, but thought for a bit of fun people might like to have a go at this version, based on a recording by the Three Mustaphas Three .....

Here's my start of the month version of Speed the Plough played on my first melodeon (ah...), a Hohner Pokerwork in D/G... just to show I don't *always* play the Streb thingy.

    Enjoy (and please be gentle)

I didn't know this tune until today (well, I hardly know any english tune) and decided not to listen to other players before I registered it, playing from the notes only.

Great Stuff Sebastian! Your bass line is superb, and just what the tune needs.

ok - here's my TOTM - the problem is it's one of those tunes that always seems to appear right in the middle of when I'm playing something else... enjoy, please don't be too critical and yes it's in Eb. Can anyone workout what the other tunes are?
