High G#'s Al...

To hear/print it - Convert-a-matic use - On-line ABC converter outputs in MIDI and manuscript

Is there any way of saving the converted midi output?

Hi Steve I've sent you an email with the soundfile attached.

If anyone else wants the soundfile as an mp3 email me and I'll send it to you. Its about 1mb in size.

I'm using the one on the push in the inside row - you know, not that other one on the pull on the outside row...choices, choices... ;D

This looks remarkably like a tune written in a minor mode, Al and Graeme know how much I love these.

I just had a play through the tune. No problems with the high G# on my 2.5 row  :D

It did sound rather squeaky in that range, though. How about playing it in E minor? Then the G#s would be D#s (or Ebs) which is a standard accidental.

Or does that spoil everybody's fun?   >:E

Yes,  I know that I have the little blighters. It is the minorness of the tune that leaves me a little tepid. If it could bring itself to be a bit majory, just for a bar or two, then well, you never know.

[quoteHowever, for the first month, I still think the choice should be something that's more accessible to a wider range of instruments, styles and abilities.]
Agreed...however I'd love to see what you do with it :D

OK, well here's a basic stab at the melody line -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOax0QGo4I4

I've been experimenting with bass options and other variations, but I'll need a lot more practice before I can pull it off in front of the camera.  This isn't proving to be the easiest piece I've ever tried.   :(

Brill GB! Not sure it needs bass accompaniment anyway. Not sure the ITM guys would bother too much about bass lines.
Thanks for responding and taking up the challenge! You're leading the way currently.

Great vid GbH - I particularly love the ending! I was just hoping to hear it before I made my first stab at it, and lo and behold, you answers my (unmade) prayers  :D

Thanks for the comments, all.

Yes bravo from me too. Excellent stuff.
Though you've developed a rather worrying case of melodeon-face.

And is Granny now the unofficial TOTM for October? Has there been a revolutionary coup against the oppressive regime of the official poll?

Perhaps it's somehow become the unofficial tune, but I really hope me posting that hasn't had any adverse effect on the official poll.  As I've written previously, I believe the first month's tune should be accessible to as many people as possible.

I must say it does feel a little like you've entered a marathon, but then on seeing the competition run the marathon 5 days before the official race in order to win.  :o

Win?  I really hope this doesn't become a competition thing.
