... a girl playing this at a party, with hardly anyone paying attention.

That's another player that can't talk and play at the the same time.

Truth is something trips me up every time with this tune, so here it is anyway: Amelie

Sounds pretty accomplished, to me.

To me, too. It might have been the effects of an odd glass of wine - but I was transported to a French cafe whilst listening P+T !

You must either have fuzzy eyesight, fuzzy hearing, or bloody good wine. Thanks J. I'll buy you a glass of red next time we meet.

Here's my recording for this theme, the 'thing from Moulin Rouge', also known as 'Where Is Your Heart'

https://youtu.be/Ihn1nixCg5w

It was a number 1 hit for Mantovani, apparently - I doubt I will have the same success! Played on a Hohner Club 1 in C/F.

Cheers,

Clive

P&T sounds good to me too! Amelie is the first song I never learned on Melodion. I struggle something awful with the second part.

Clive that was really lovely on a Sunday morning. Really took me away.

Following on from last month's Black Hills of Dakota, another bit of cowboy related silliness. Says a lot about how I spent my childhood...

The band used to pair this with Cardington Girls which I posted in New Tunes back in2018

My dad had a fight with John Wayne in a bar, when he [my dad] was in the navy. He backed down pretty quickly [my dad]. Said that 'a little Scottish mate of mine, used to pick fights that he couldn't follow through on, and stood back and let me settle them'. Well, this was one he decided not to settle.

Here's my half penn'orth somewhat tangentially related to this month's theme!  It's a tune that Hugh Taylor of this parish brought to my attention.  It appears to be pretty much the same as the music which Michael Nyman wrote for the main theme from The Piano, or at least the A music does.  The tune is from the Rev'd Harrison Collection from Temple Sowerby, Westmoreland (sic) and is called 'Gloomy Winter's Night' - just the thing to cheer us all up in these gloomy times eh?  I play it on my Saltarelle Pastourelle III, once with the bass fundamentals out and once in with a somewhat clumsy stop adjustment half way through!

Well played Steve.

My (grown up) son was trying to persuade me to learn & post The Mos Eisley Cantina theme from the first Star Wars film. Two things stopped me, the lesser one being the fear of getting sued for billions by the Disney Corporation but more importantly coz it's a right tricky blighter with jazzy accidentals.  Probably not impossible on a normal 4th apart box though. Feel free to nick the idea and have a go.  (:)

I'm just going to leave this here.

(And I'll have a go at it tomorrow to see if it's feasible. Definitely a great idea.)

Mist Covered Mountains of Home.  With Going Home, the two main musical themes of "Local Hero" (Scottish film from 1983) and many a Mark Knopfler concert.  Warts and all, here you go:

(finally learning how to use my phone)

Also the love theme from the 1973 Estonian film "Ukuara", music by Arvo Pärt:

Thanks, guys.  Check out the dozens of Ukuaru videos on YouTube including performance by the composer and lots of lõõtspilli.  My version is a distillation of all of them.  A story:

My barber is a big OT music fan and likes me to bring the box with when I come in for a haircut.  I play for him and his customers.  When I went to pay, he told me the guy before me had paid because he liked "that big-hearted waltz".  That was Ukuaru valss.

I also recommend Going Home as a great piece for 2-row.
