Hi.  I haven't posted on here in ages, and hadn't been playing any kind of free reed instruments for several years, but just got a Castagnari Melodeon (one-row) in C.  I really wanted one in D, but got a deal I couldn't pass up on this one in C, and probably won't be playing with others for a while, so decided it would be fine for practicing.

It's a walnut version, which I hadn't seen before...I've mostly seen the all black versions.

I have two equipment questions that I thought other Castagnari Melodeon owners might be able to answer:

1. The Castagnari hard case it came in is huge.  Has anyone found a soft, padded gig bag type case that fits the melodeon well?

2. It came without a shoulder strap and I'm not comfortable playing with the thumb strap.  Is it possible to order Castagnari straps from somewhere?  I did order a "Neotech Brass Sling" which I saw recommended somewhere, so that may be sufficient.

This should fit the Castagnari Melodeon/Max nicely. Check your instrument's measurements to be sure.

Thanks Steve.  That does look like it would work.  I'm in the US tho...maybe I'll see if I can find something similar here.  I'll keep that one bookmarked.

Thanks Steve.  That does look like it would work.  I'm in the US tho...maybe I'll see if I can find something similar here.  I'll keep that one bookmarked.

I think Pete (Acorn instruments) will ship to the US, although in these Covid-19 lockdown days nothing is certain. I'm sure Pete will be along shortly to confirm or otherwise.

Just a note that the Button Box is currently closed, including online sales, for the time being due to the mandatory closure of non-essential businesses. I believe they will still answer emails but won’t be able to ship anything at the moment.

We all worry about shipping in the midst of this 'situation'.  I had a packet of reeds collected by FedEx from Gloucestershire at 12.24pm Tuesday.  They were delivered in Knoxville, USA at 7.38pm Wednesday!!!
4,000 miles in just over 24 hours, with a 'gurt' Big Pond in between.  It takes longer to get letters from town.

I have a Castagnari Melodeon case that came new with mine not in use.

What is the size of your ""huge" case ?

I'll compare it to mine.

BTW I have owned 5 Castagnari Melodeons.. by far my favorite was in C. Wish I had not sold it.
