One thing  I have liked about this forum is that it is non-judgmental and supportive of others, so I am disappointed to read the comments critical of Border sides in this thread. As with any other kind of dancing, some sides are better than others, but all probably enjoy what they do and are probably trying their best. We do nobody any favours by pouring cold water on their efforts or by singling out a particular type of Morris for criticism. If you don't like it, don't watch it, but let's leave the mud-slinging to others and keep it off melodeon.net, please.

What is it about Morris?

Where two or three musicians (of whatever instrument) are gathered together, when the convesation turns to morris, you can guarantee sparks will fly.  I've never seen anything like it in any other field, musical or non-musical.

I suspect Blues musicians might argue just as much. But they're probably not smoking the same 'mix' as KDL in this archive shot ;D

I don't think I quite understand the whole morris thing. There seems to be something deep in the blood of most involved.

Morris - to the onlooker a mixture of horror and morbid fascination.

What drivel. Having come back from another wonderful Cotswold tour this weekend I can tell you that the main response from the onlookers always delight.

Would that be Morris - the dancing, or Morris, the politics?

Morris dancing is a wonderful thing- many of the videos are of older and middle-aged men, and they're getting a good workout.

Like a lot of fitness dance, probably better to be in good shape before started. As a complete outsider to this tradition, it has been fun to learn a little something.

Yes. You could also have a special Morris weekend diet too. Grill the bacon for the sarnies instead of frying it and make sure you order 'Low Fat' Bass at the bar.

By the way - Steve_Freereeder & Bob Ellis - Fair comment :|glug :|glug :|glug. I'm glad I've kept my opinions on Border to myself. Jack Sprat and all that, One man's meat etc. etc.

Slight thread drift though still Morris related: Does anyone on this forum feel confident/able enough to lead an Ilmington 'Workshop' - for mixed sides? ( Or should that be 'mixed-UP' sides? ) In the U.K.
