Standard 8 button bass found on A/D or C#/D boxes works fine.

But what happens when you're playing in G major and you want to play a G chord with a D note?

Standard A/D setup has G/G (push and pull) and any C#/D player with any sense has their D/G button pair converted to G/G.  (:)

The problem of playing in G major is bigger than that though. It is shhh! the fact that you have no C chord.

Melnet: I see you have a D/C# box with no basses. What would be your ideal bass layout, actually?

S. Lemay: Start by adding all the basses on a standard C#/D, change D/G to G/G, and then remove them all. Get hold of reeds for the essential missing F/C chord pair but make sure you don't put them in.

Another thing you can source is 14 basses with thirdless chords. Order from Charlie Marshall but don't unpack.

Oh, and a full 120-button stradella system would be nice to have also. Tune to perfection and then crush under a heavy roller.

I think that's about it, really...
