another technical question
« on: October 11, 2009, 07:45:17 PM »

You Tube sometimes runs really well and at other times, like now,  really slow i.e. keeps stopping and starting. Really frustrating as I have the time this evening to look through all the tunes? just wondered if there was an obvious reason for this  ??? ??? ???
Not really a melodeon question but it is connecting me to them !!

Cheers

Sandy

I don't often look at youtube as it uses too much bandwidth for us, but there have been a couple of things I have wanted to look at in the last couple of days.  Unfortunately all I get is a message that says "an error has occurred, try again later".

Maybe it's all the tune-of-the monthers jamming up the system! >:E

Also possibly a slow down from your broadband provider - you'll probably find access significantly better out of peak time (early evening) if so. Some broadband providers deliberately throttle video traffic at peak times - see www.thinkbroadband.com for *lots* more discussion and help diagnosing such issues.

Cheers,

Clive

Just try reloading the page, that usually works. And enjoy it while you can. Youtube seems to be losing about $470M this year, and I don't think the tune of the month can generate that much advertising income.  :-\ If I really like a youtube video I usually download it (using the downloadhelper plugin for firefox) just to be on the safe side.

Hi Simon
could you be more specific about what plug-in i need. I use fire fox and there are some lovely videos that I'd love to down load to practice with - I didn't realise I could down load You tube stuff

thanks

For the non-firefox users: you can also paste youtube links at keepvid.com to download movies.

vixy.net to download them..

http://www.videoaccelerator.com/ is a product you could look at...

How much Ram do you have, you should have @1Gig... Some say Ram doesn't matter for Youtube, I find it does.

Unfortunately you just may have slow internet. There are variables here, it's hard to say without seeing why a video loads slowly.
