Am I imagining it or does he have a 6 voice box?

-Yes it is! Falcon?

He's been around a while, I like Cajun music, but not in heavy doses.

If I'm not mistaken he plays a Falcon two-key box, with three reeds per key.  I have no way of checking at present, but I think they're typically in C/D.  If you look at the video you can see that he has only three stops up (1, 2, and 4).

I met Wayne in San Diego many years ago. He showed me the 6 stopper which is indeed in the keys of C and D.
A few years before that, I stayed in Crowley, Louisiana for a couple of months and used to dance with Wayne's mum (now sadly deceased) several nights a week at Belisaire's Cajun Restaurant.
Good times.

Crikey! This is your idea of looking old! Remind me to wear a mask in my next video  8)
It sounds to me like he is basically playing the same thing over and over again - maybe I am not good enough at the instrument yet to pick up on what is really happening.

This thread made me think: "It's about time I bought another Wayne Toups CD!" So I browsed the Amazon site and ordered Blast from the Bayou. While browsing, I came across Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys. The CDs arrived on Saturday (no postal strike here!) What fantastic CDs, especially the Steve Riley album, Le Toussaint. Brilliant box playing and a superb CD all round!
