19 button Casta Studio
« on: October 14, 2009, 10:10:31 PM »

Hi all -

Trawling t'internet, I came across a little 19 button Castagnari Studio. The web page didn't say, but I presume that with 19 buttons rather than 21, you lose the accidentals (or low notes) at the bottom end of the rows.

Is that correct?

Is that correct?

No.

Like on the Baffetti Black/Red Pearl 2, it's the squeaky top two 'dog whistlers' that are ditched... ;D

BTW, there was one of these 19 key Studios on fleaBay which ended recently... is/was it the same one?

That's all very well, but how do the owners then call their dogs?  ;)

Thanks for the info.

Are you sure? The new Studio has 21 buttons, so presumably has accidentals. But my Studio is a 19 button, and has no accidentals. I personally think this is fantastic for beginners, because I honestly only ever hit my accidentals by accident for the first year I played. But it's limiting after a while. Of course, it would presumably be reasonably easy to switch the reeds around and add accidentals instead of dog whistlers.

I think Castagnari's intention was to avoid undercutting their other ranges with the Studio.

Are you sure?

Sure I'm sure. All the 19 keys I've come across (Studio, Baffettis, Paolos) have a 3rd button keynote (as per 'default' Pokerwork rig), with the topmost two highest buttons missing.

The fact you have low notes/accidentals is immaterial... unless, that is, you were used to a 4th button start instrument, where you'd feel the limitations in the bottom end...

For what its worth, the only 2nd button start box I've encountered was an old Casti Max in low G. Where it seemed to make a fair bit of sense... shifting the range of the box a bit higher...

Is that top - chinmost or top - squeekiest?

You may well find that it varies with the whim of the factory, or on who has ordered them - with their own specifications. I find it best to remind the factories of what I/my customers want, every time I order off them...  ::)

Thanks for all the replies.

I guess the answer is... "it varies"!!!

... as always seems to be way with all things squeezeboxy! (Notice how I avoided using 'melodeon' or 'accordion' there - don't want to open a whole new can of worms!   >:E ).

Cheers!

Yes, by the way folks describe the same thing differently... ::)

Most 19 key D/Gs come via dealers who know the spec, and supply what sells.

Sure, there's the odd custom one or two out there, but there ain't many...
