Excuse my ignorance but what is de-clubbed, or should I say what does club mean?

Club melodeons have the same note on the third button of the octave (D/E on the G row) so they play the D in both directions. Sort of sensible as it gives you a D in both directions and the E is available in the correct direction on the D row - mind you makes them mostly unplayable for mere mortals.

Not to be confused with the Dutch modification which just swaps the D/E reed around to give suck D and blow D  :P

Here's my first attempt at the LIDL tune - a bit more rushed in the 2nd half than I would have liked, due to nerves!

Diane

I love your interpretation - and the box is gorgeous  (:)

Thanks Lester.....think I like the sound of 'de-clubbed'  (:)

The club system is an modified tone layout: http://info.melodeon.net/files/site/CFclub30.gif

The advantage of the third row with accidentials and reversed notes should be clear. The reason for the one button with the same note on push and pull on the main row is: this note is part of the tonic chord (push) and the dominant chord (pull). It does existe on the lowest octave on push and on pull but is absent in the middle and high octave.

There is an additional chord on the left hand side which completes all three major chords for playing in the subdominant key.

It is still widely used e. g. in Germany, but it may be that the advantages of this lay-out are more relevant for the playing of german music than british (because melodic and harmonic structures and chording customs are different).

To de-club a club is like taking its soul out.  :'(

Actually there is still a pull-D on the first row (e/d) quite close to the c/c club-button
so I do not see a real reason for 'declubbing'

If, like me, you have played a pull-E on that button for 25+ years it not being there is far too hard to contemplate.   ;D

Why is everyone with a G/C box playing the tune in the key of C? Why not the key of G?
I have some troubles with the chords in the end of the B part because of the usual 5th note on the C row (the reed WILL be turned next summer so that it becomes like an organetto!) if I don't remember wrong. Can anyone help?
I suck at playing in C on the 2-row. If I can't play it in G, I prefer to play it on the organetto and skip some basses... I'm simply not able in the key of C on the 2-row, I never find the appropriate notes other than using the C row only, which messes up trying to play chords. Dang. I don't think the appropriate time to learn to play in C is with a tune I haven't heard until yesterday.

Love to hear it on an organetto, something new, something different   (:)  There is no WRONG in Tune of the Month just lots of different stuff to inspire people.

I see now that my message was quite unclear ??? Does anyone know how to chord the B part if I play it in G on a G/C box?

I WILL try it on the organetto, though. There is no instrument as fun as the organetto! :|||: :|||: :|||: ;D

I drive a G/C too,  though on the left side of the Channel ;) and had a go on my outer row

 http://forum.melodeon.net/index.php/topic,2762.msg32747.html#msg32747

Gavin has proven that you can do excellent melody and lovely phrasing on a single row. The impasse playing outer of 2 rows is to do with chords in the B music.  The long IV C chord bit puts the tune in lydian mode (F# against C base) and somehow gives the B part it's 'flight'. Basically you need to change bellows direction to get play tune, but you don't have a C chord on pull.

That doesn't stop you doing it outer row, but against a different bass you get a different sound.

With me it is only because the music I downloaded from diatojo.com is in C  (:)
