Greybeard...
« on: October 27, 2009, 04:37:45 PM »

I have a complaint - I'm now known as a 'respected greybeard'. Can we have a female-friendly 'talks too much' alter ego please?  :|bl ;D

Dur? :Ph (see left hand stuff)

I've overposted somehow and rather climbed the social strata in this excellent forum. Too many attempts at humerous one liners I guess. I really liked being a greybeard (you listening, Theo?) but have now been mislabled (you listening, Theo?) as some sort of hero.  I think the more garrulous posters should be able to pick their own epithets.

In another SMF I use the mods set these labels. Might not be a bad idea here?

'Lady who lunches?' perhaps?

'Legend in her own lunch-time'

'Talks for England'?

I'll go now......

I may have to slow down to maintain 'regular debater' status.

I don't think my 'good talker' tab is entirely deserved. 'Bit of a blether' maybe!

I'm fed up with just being a pleb, so I'm going to stop loitering and do more posting.

:o Warnering! whatever will you lot get up to next?

Warnering: Phrase coined on a board I used to frequent. Named after a chap called Mark Warner who used to up his post count by posting consecutive single word posts. He once managed a thousand posts in a day!  ::) (well night actually, he lived in Oz and had a field day while we were sleeping).

The administrator put an end to it by adding 'flood' control' preventing anyone from making consecutive posts within five minutes.

What do you suggest?  It needs to be male-friendly too.

Regardless of the gender issue, "Respected Greybeard" doesn't really cut it because it implies that one is respected simply because one has a lot to say, not because one is saying something redolent of wisdom and experience.

I was once told by a Kiowa woman that in her tribe those who talked too much were called "little brains" and the wise elders were called "listeners", so perhaps we need an epithet that implies frequency of posting rather than the quality.

My sense of humour brings a number of scurrilous suggestions to mind but, not wishing to give offence, I would suggest something anodyne, like "Keen Contributor".

I would love it if "Respected Greybeard" was replaced by "good listener" (:)
