Suggestions for December's Tune of the Month
« on: October 24, 2009, 11:39:04 AM »

Where do I post December nominations? What about 'any Christmas Carol you fancy'?
Might be something to do with the fact that I'm practising like crazy for the carolling season that is descending upon me sooooo quicklY!
AL

How about here for now? I'll sticky and rename it once November's poll is done. [[[ Now open for business! ]]]

I agree with the Christmas carol theme - I had something just like that in mind myself. My only question was whether we should run a conventional TOTM alongside as well - i.e. have a TOTM *and* a Theme OTM. I think that would work rather well, and in future months we could have different themes (e.g. tunes you've written yourself, tv/film music, mazurkas, whatever really....)

What do you think?

I think that a Christmas themed Dec TotM would be a good idea (:) I have a good one...

Why thank you - very kind :-) I love playing hymn and carol music - there are some gorgeous tunes. The CD also features a very nice (IMHO of course) version of the Corpus Christi carol too...

Cheers,
Clive

The Cherry Tree Carol works very nicely as a waltz. (Gospel of pseudo Matthew page 3, Al)  >:E It is also an 'advent' carol so arguably suited to December play.  But isn't there a "Christmas Tree"?   Why are all these Sheffield types so silent?  Get thee t' t' Royal in Dungworth lads  :|glug  Or t' t'Fountain oop at Ingbirchworth  :|glug  :|glug Hundreds of bleedin' carols ....

The Christmas Tree

.. yes it really does repeat 5 times. :Ph

Agree with Al, however I have bought the CD. I don't see how we can avoid a christmas theme in one form or another. Maybe for the Klezmr fans we could have a Honnikah ??? TOTM too.

December - time for Theme of the Month?
« Reply #7 on: November 01, 2009, 12:21:28 AM »

December's almost with us! ;D Time to start thinking about what we're going to play in December. Al's suggestion of 'any Christmas carol/song you fancy' is, I think, a great one... and one I'd love to do, stepping outside of the normal TOTM format for one month.

What do you people think? Good idea? If so, shall we run a conventional TOTM alongside it too? I'll set up a poll for a week or so to canvas opinion...

Cheers,

Clive

I like the idea of running both a Theme and Tune of the month.

I agree with Chris R about "get thee to Dungworth etc" (IF you can get in!), but I'm afraid I don't think "The Christmas Tree" is really suitable as a melodeon tune, however much I enjoy singing it - though it may simply be my playing that is at fault .... .. ..  :|bl

My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

I'm surprised at the popularity of the idea of having a carol or some other tune with a Christmas theme as December's TOTM. Personally, I get sated with the amount of carols I have to play in December for various events and would prefer a TOTM that gave me a break from Christmas tunes. Bah humbug!  ::)

I agree with you that I would never have considered "The Christmas Tree" as a suitable melodeon tune - I don't think it's your playing...

I have a really good nomination. Unfortunately I can only remember a little bit of it and can't remember the title...
