Hi all

I'm trying to learn the Shetland jig 'Christmas Day Ida Moarnin' ' as my Christmas tune contribution (prematurely for sure). Has anyone got recommendations about arrangement for this as as I'm finding basses difffcult to fit in, but as I love the tune I don't want to pass it bye, TOTM or not.

it's the second tune played here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjtF5ft35e0 The first tune is not bad either.

That's a nice thought. I'll stick it in the TOTM nominated tune list, but even if it doesn't make the list/win that, it'd be great for next month's Christmas theme.

Re: arrangement... I'd probably do it as a slow air, played in the upper octave, and put 'droney' basses in. Assuming you're playing it in G, it's mostly G, D and C chords, although I dare say a few related minors could creep in occasionally. The B music, interestingly seems to come out for me as alternating D and C chords only - no G chord at all.

Just my suggestions - though we should probably take any arrangement discussion to the 'Tunes' forum for now (meant for exactly this sort of question) to avoid clogging the main TOTM / Suggestions threads.

Cheers,

Clive

I'm confused, I noticed God Rest You Merry Gentlemen and Good King Wenceslas in the December poll. Shouldn't the christmas tunes be in a seperate christmas poll, or are they all in together?  ???

Nope, the 'theme poll' gave a clear mandate for 'should there be a theme and tune together', but was rather more ambiguous about whether the tune should be christmas related or not. So... it's a simple straight battle between a set of christmas tunes and normal tunes for TOTM - all in the same poll, and  let the best tune win. The theme of the month thread will simply be a come-all-ye 'post your christmas tunes here' thread, to appear on or around 1st Dec.

Ho ho ho!

In the Bleak Midwinter
Patapan

Thanks Lester for the two ABCs for the other ones!

Here's a couple of videos of the carols:

In the bleak midwinter
Patapan

Can't find any decent takes of Hot Punch on Youtube, and no takes at all of Foul Weather Call. Funny, I thought they were relatively well known...

Cheers,

Clive
