It sure looks like Princess will win. At least it did yesterday. That's the only tune I have heard so I voted for that:) But when I play through all sheet music I've found online, I don't understand if it's supposed to be minor or major???? Maybe I should throw the sheet music and try to learn it by ear instead?

Susi

There are many versions of Princess Royal in both major and minor keys so probably everything you find will be correct in some tradition or other.

If it gets selected then I'm going to take my inspiration from our very own Princess Royal and let the muse lead me where it will.

There is also a song that goes with the tune called "Bold Nelson's Praise" so that could be of inspiration to some as well. More details about the tune here - http://folkopedia.efdss.org/Princess_Royal

Is there a sinister or subliminal Nelson theme running thru TOTM? I'm wondering about that Limoise piper now. And what next?

Could you be a bit more specific, Squire?  Left  8) or Right  >:E ?
that's between me and my tailor, Chris.

Mustn't be complacent still 3 other near runners who could take over last minute like LIDL did last time.

If it gets selected then I'm going to take my inspiration from the pub in Brentford. God knows where that will lead me.  ::)

Cheers

You have 3 times as many votes than either of the other two runners and 45 people have already voted which is the core of the interested people so don't worry. I even moved my vote from In the Bleak Midwinter as I can do that as well under the Yule Rule

23 to 2 well for odds that's eleven and a half to one. Don't think Foul Weather Call has a chance now. Thanks to the other person that voted with me for that.

Sarah, I think all that subtle lobbying at Witney is paying off.  (:)

Gosh, I don't know about everyone out there but PRINCESS ROYAL doesn't look like the best choice to play on the squeeze box... But it certainly  is a VERY nice  melody.   I just watched a video on YouTube of this tune played on the Celtic harp.  It would seem better suited for that instrument (My  humble opinion).  I guess we'll just have to see what talent we have out there! :-)

It's definitely a squeeze boxible tune. Here are three very different examples:

Before TOTM, I had never heard, or even heard of, "Princess Royal". Having now heard it, it's certainly new to me (different culture, I suppose). However, I have given it my vote, as a small token of thanks to LdT for her very interesting posts. I might even try to learn it (but where's the time? Dusting off all these seasonal tunes again, Jim Mackay's "Primrose Valley", plus a new tune our music group presented me with for a recent "0" birthday - phew!)

Eh?  ??? Clearly you are not a Morris dancer, Princess Royal works well on the box and is played extensively on it.

Thanks Steve for enlightening me with this "new" melody.  Like Bill says "new culture, I suppose".  I guess on the harp, it sounded quite differently.

I'm a Yorkie!
My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.
