I'd like to hear more about the Castagnari Casta and see some interior pics if anyone has some!

Here are some pictures.  First shows the interior of the treble end with the reedblocks removed.  Note the western red cedar soundboard, and hollowed out front panel.  The rear panel has the same treatment.

The bass action is very quiet in operation.  Two reasons for this I can see are 1 - no mechanical links between chords and bass reeds, and 2 each pivot at the end of the button rods has a brass pin that acts as a hinge.

Oh yes, it plays like a dream, even the top end of the G row.

Rich Arrowsmith has a G/C Casta.  I had a go on it a few months ago and it is to die for!  Everything seemed lovely about it.

Hi Theo,
The other thing that I see in this first photo is the elongated holes that would lead to the reedblocks.  Are the reedblocks standard Castagnari or are they somewhat different?  Also curious if they are cedar.
Thanks for posting the pictures, I know that you are a busy man!
Thanks to the others for posting their comments as well.
Best regards,
Andy

The reedblocks look pretty standard Castagnari.  The exit holes from the reedblocks are larger than in a Mory for example, but if you have to accommodate slides for stops the exit hole size is limited to a maximum of half the reed spacing. So it does appear that the Casta design is making the most of the lack of stops, to give the most open sound path to the outside world.

Andy

Talking to Rees at the weekend he says that Castagnari are no longer producing this model. He has a GC for sale at the moment.
