What about an awards system for totm?

Thanks for the thought, but I think things are going very well as is at the moment. TOTM works precisely because it's not a competition, I think. It's doing 2 things I rather hoped it would...

1) For beginners, it's getting people learning and playing tunes in front of an audience of their peers, picking up confidence as they go. That's great to see.
2) For more experienced players, it shows there are many, many, different approaches to playing the same tune, many of which have completely different flavours to what you might commonly play. I like Graeme's particularly, because they're completely different to how it would even occur to me to play these tunes. It's like a whole new world!

Cheers,

Clive

My point was that if we only ever say 'thanks Chris that was nice' there is little meaning in it.

There's always room for constructive criticism, but don't forget the power of building people's confidence with a simple 'well done' too. And more confidence means you're more likely push yourself a little harder, and try a few tricks you wouldn't have tried last month. And so we progress...

Cheers,

Clive

Clive

Just a suggestion.
Would be nice if the tunes nominated were linked to a listenable file of some kind.

:|bl What I meant with my original post to this forum. Was that I've not heard a lot of the tunes suggested before and I'm sure there are others in the same position. So I would enjoy a listen to what is suggested, so's that when it came to voting later on we would have a small nogin of what we were voting for.

Now you've all diversified into a competitive vein and want to award effort. Lets not forget that we are on a learning curve.

I enjoy the challenge of each tune I hear and want to play.

Also I like that we get to hear so many different sounding boxes.

I'll get me coat. :|glug

Know what you mean Chas.

If you are nominating a tune for TOTM, then make it easy for people to vote for it and for Clive and the team (?) to include it in the poll.

I wouldn't vote for a tune I don't know and can't listen to or watch. Often a YouTube link is sufficient - that's what got me interested in Ashokan Farewell.

Ah support at last. Thank you Andy.
Thought I'd gone Mutton Jeff. As no one was listening to me.
A Melodeon link to Ashokan Farewell I would like to hear.

Thanks Lester. See that it was put up in November. I'd tried before and just got fiddles playing it.

I wouldn't mind some constructive criticism. I am gaining so much from listening and viewing, it's wonderful, but could do with some pointers. I really wish to improve my own understanding and playing of the box. I value other players' opinions but not sure I'd want them on You Tube in public view.  Would prefer   'please send me any pointers in a personal message.'

So enjoying TOTM  (:)

Cheers

Wonder if we could suggest the 'magic roundabout' for TOTM.  ???

sounds fun. Shouldn't that go in the future suggestions thread?
