I feel I am a northerner (born in the peoples republic of south yorkshire) but my daughter who was born in Kendal while we were living in Cumbria always informs me that the proper north doesn't start untill you pass Lancaster on the M6, or York on the A1! (Our friend from Crook Morris will doubtless have an opinion on this one!)

Since you've invited me to comment, here is today's geography's lesson and sit up straight when I am talking to you! The Pennines are suburbs to Wensleydale, which is the centre of the country in more than one respect. The North is the name given to that part of the country inhabited by those with the right idea, but who are not fortunate enough to live in Wensleydale or its suburbs. Have you got that? There will be a test later...........

Excuse me for a while; it's time for my medication.

Is Wensleydale itself but a mere appendage to Rosedale?  :-*

I'm a Yorkie!
My other melodeon's a fiddle, but one of my Hohners has six strings! I also play a very red Hawkins Bazaar in C and a generic Klingenthaler spoon bass in F.!! My other pets (played) are gobirons - Hohner Marine Band in C, Hohner Tremolo in D and a Chinese Thingy Tremolo in G.

Excuse me - The North has 'always' (since the dark ages at least) started at the border of Mercia and Northumbria , which is Lym brook, the south western  border of Sheffield (until it was moved 5 miles further into Derbyshire after WW2 - the border that is)
Hence those of us born in Sheffield are Northerners (the first Northerners if you are from the South)
Melodeons oop North also a nice lunatic acronym.
As an exile in Dorset Melodeons in Huddersfield would be a joy too great to avoid. A 2 day drive with stopover for Marston's Pedigree in Ashbourne  ;D

I live just 1/2 mile north of the Limb Brook. Phew! That was a close call!

 "melodeons in the Pennines" perhaps?

How about "Melodeons and Moor" (or even Melodeons on t'Moor)
Just a thought.

Hi there Mark. I am of course keen on an event of the kind you are suggesting. Don't rely on me for help though as I am much too disorganised and lazy. I hope to just turn up and reap the benefits.
Missing you at Silkstone Greens by the way.

I thought that comment would get a few people going!  Perhaps I ought to shut up before I get thrown off melnet for starting controversial threads!

Thanks for the good wishes from Silkstone Guy. Having my leg stiches out this afternoon. Shoulder is still very painfull, but hoping to sort out some physio soon. With a bit of luck hope to be back playing by time practices resume after christmas.

They mend. My own left should broke in 3 places when I parted compant from my bike but it's OK now. Try not to break a bone into a joint. Much worse, and an excellent early start to arthritis. :-\

Good luck with that Physio, mate. Mine was an absolute peach 8)

I've always wanted to host the English Country Music Weekend (ECMW) in Wales, but the rotters won't let me.
The nearest we got was Bishops Castle (twice!) - two miles from the border. Doh!  :|glug
