Wraggle Taggle Gypsies

Can anyone offer advice on this?

I have been asked by a friend if I could learn the waterson:carthy version of WTG as on Broken Ground. She would like me to accompany her on the box(established d/g box is OK for her voice).

Ive made a start getting the basic idea and structure by listening to tune and watching the clip on youtube!! Trouble is, trying to strip out all the rest of the instrumentation to get just the melodeon part and the r/chording is proving more difficult.

I don't want to 'copy' the version note for note but I would like to know I am pretty close to the root of the tune.

This is very new territory for me, never played for a singer, but am up for the challenge.  I don't read music so that won't help. Midi file would be good.

Any advice or pointers would be welcome.

Thanks

Chris

Would this be the tune ? midi http://www.contemplator.com/child/wraggle.html

I haven't heard the Waterson,Carty version but this version http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=F5qbO3AA--I  has the lyrics and music(in D!) while the song plays.
I noticed that the notorious low B is played quite a bit, that it note is usually missing on the DG.
I know that you don't read music but the arrangement is fairly simple.

I just watched these guys http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ejE7R1S6gHo&NR=1  Nigel Tufnall(formerly of Spinaltap) must have gone trad after metal died  :o

I play this on the anglo, and play it in the "cross" position (i.e. the "pull major"). It seems to open up more possibilities for drones/chording. I had a crack at it on the F row of my club, but that's probably different to yours cos the low notes go all the way down on the F row. Plus the basses haven't been declubbed, so there's an extra chord in there.

*realises he's probably been completely unhelpful*  :(
