The Sussex Tunebook
« on: December 21, 2009, 08:57:11 AM »

This is perhaps the best collection of tunes from various Sussex manuscripts, but it's been out of print for years and years. There are a couple of pages missing (one has Speed the Plough on it, so no huge loss there), but other than that its complete. I hope anyone who uses it finds it as useful as I have, after the blood and tears fighting with the HP scanner software!

I have an ABC and a pdf version which is the result of work by several people over several years. Meic Goodyear put it into NWC, Bryan Creer converted it to ABC using his converter, and I have corrected some obvious typos and errors and produced a pdf booklet. But I didn't have the original to check it against. Now I can check it, thanks very much. We haven't released it because of the copyright issues.

I've had a link up on my web page for quite a few years now without any problems, so here's a link to the ABC. I haven't had access to my Tiscali web pages for years now so I couldn't take it down if I wanted to.

Thanks Bill:)  This is a tunebook I keep going back to so your ABC is really useful.

I see Michael Turner's MS had a tune he called "Polish Polka" which is known to Scottish folkies as "The Liberton Polka" and given a history that traces it to Army piping.

Interesting if it was originally Polish.  The Mustrad article on Turner dates the MS in question to 1845, which I am pretty sure predates any Scottish version of the tune.

I can't figure out how to quit but I will no longer check this group and have deleted all shortcuts to it.

Looks like they finally took it down along with everything else. I have put the files up on GitHub here: Sussex Tune Book in ABC and PDF.
