Interesting exchanges with box manufacturers recently
« on: December 29, 2009, 04:57:01 PM »

Hohner- I spoke with people there just before Christmas and was told the Morgane would be out in C#/D in 2010, probably in the shops in late summer.

Excelsior-  I sent Roberto a message on MySpace a couple of weeks ago asking about a Mini in C#/D-- what would be the cost, delivery time, etc.  I got back a nice email saying it would be no problem to build one in C#/D, but that I should contact their US distributor. So I did, and got an email back from the distributor (whom I will not name) quoting me a price on a B/C 4-voice Midi.  I thanked him for that, but explained I was asking about the Mini, the single voice box.

His reply, a few minutes ago (bold type his):

There is no such thing as a single voice Excelsior.

I thanked him for the info and told him I'd forward that on to Roberto at Excelsior, because that would be news to him-- and to the people who play them.

Way to know your products there, chief!

I know of whom you speak.  Another delightful character in the world of accordions.
He is on my  "A" list.

I spoke with Hobgoblin about these  Excelsior MINIs.  They said they were very good boxes and some prefer them over the Saltarelle  and Castagnari versions.

Interesting that Hohner will have the Morgane in C#/D.

I thought that he was the US distributor? Or is Accordion-*-Rama the Excelsior distributor?  I've done business with that place before, and Peter should be ashamed of the way he handles customers -- or potential customers.  However, if it weren't for the horrible service at Accordion-*-Rama, the finest button accordion and concertina store in the US might not have been founded...

Yep, Peter.  I'd never heard of him.

Wow, didn't mean to strike a nerve, ha!

I did ask the Excelsior people if there was anyone else in the U.S. I could talk to (shades of Monty Python) since I didn't feel comfortable dealing with someone who knew less about their stuff than me-- and I'm just a guy with a computer, I don't make my living from them.

On a positive note though-- Tim at Hohner was great to talk to.

My apologies to anyone who took offence at comments posted that were deemed "defamatory"; that was not my intent.

I agree with Andy's comments:

"Horrible service at Accordion-*-Rama "
"Peter should be ashamed of the way he handles customers-- or potential customers."

I will also add that in addition to not knowing about Excelsior's offerings, they know little of ,and are known for giving misinformation about , Hohner products.
