Rhythm and Football
« on: January 20, 2010, 08:00:25 PM »

Having been very interested in what  Theo said re (Irish jigs)  re 9/8  Liverpool ..Manchester.. I would like to take some rhythms/football scenarios to my mini melodeon class on Friday.

I know very little about  football. so.............. can anyone help with football clubs and relevant timings.

i think Leeds would be ok 4/4  is that correct?

I could really do with a 2/4 to cover the tune Jolly Miller which I think I should in count in 1&2&  1&2&  any suggestions greatly received

 Liverpool ..Manchester.. is 6/8
for 9/8 add another three syllable team  Liverpool ..Manchester..Sunderland
2/4 how about Watford..Chelsea sounds like a polka to me :D

Not sure we are quite there yet?

6/8 and 9/8 are not the respective time signatures of single and double jigs.

single and double jigs are both 6/8

no don't ask ! ;D

Interesting that a lot of London teams are only two syllables, Fulham, Chelsea, Watford, Brentford (yay), West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham (you don't usually hear the middle e), Barnet  etc......so would you find more Polkas in the south  ???

cheers

Sandy

Got it.. I didn't read it properly first time around :|bl  complicated though different timings, I usually just play what I can and don't think too much about the theory

I am probably making  a poor choice choosing football teams bound to cause rivalry  (:)

What about reels? Desperately few clubs in England and Scotland seem to have four-syllable names. Best I can come up with so far is

Wolverhampton Wanderers 'n' | HamiltonAth Letical 'n' | ...

I scored with my football rhythms ....  apologies couldn't resist that ;D

The children thought it was great fun and we managed to get a small amount of bass and melody going using some of the suggestions.

Thank you everyone

There is a tune, can't remember the B section or what it is called, but here is approximately the A. The first two bars sound vaguely like Brighton and Ho-ove | Albion Football club

If I'm not mistaken that's the Killimor Jig (pronounced Kill-EYE-mer) composed by the late Sean Ryan. Only your 4th bar is a bit approximate, I'd have put BGB cAF...

Aaaah - no Geordie clearly. It's said "N'ycasel" arguably very close to a 5/8 rhythm in itself. "Sunderland" might work - but that's no football match - is it?

Quite possibly (:) It's one of our session  tunes. You may well be right with the fourth bar, I don't know it particularly well :P
