Soprani medallions
« on: January 25, 2010, 12:28:50 AM »

What is the significance of the Poalo Soprani "medallion"; the thing in the middle of the grille with the little man playing a box? Most of the ones I've seen are red, however in the last 6 months I've seen 2 blue medallions. One with 6 stars is on a double row BC box of 50's - 60's vintage, exact year unknown. The other blue medallion has only 2 stars and is on a 1953 three row BCC#, strad. base, stepped keyboard "Italia" model box purchased in Killarney. Joe Madden's 2 row/9 coupler box also has a blue medallion. It was Joe who first pointed out the blue medallion to me at a Comhaltas convention before he died. He said it was a 'better' box because of the blue but I don't why it is 'better'???
