When Cmaj = Emin (Giordy question)
« on: January 30, 2010, 11:51:54 PM »

Much to my astonishment, I've just noticed that the 'Cmaj' and 'Emin' chords on my Giordy sound exactly the same.  How I've managed to miss this before I can't say, but I'm sure my ears aren't deceiving me.  In fact, I've sometimes wondered why tunes on the Giordy sometimes sound sort-of different from my other boxes, but it never occured to me to find out why.   :|bl

Listening closely - and I could be mistaken here -  it sounds like both the chords contain only the notes E and G.  Obviously, that fits with both Cmaj and Emin - but why repeat it like that when there are so few chord buttons available anyway?   Could there be a Giordy-specific reason why it's been tuned like this, or is my instrument a 'friday afternoon' job?    ???

Have you opened it up to see whether the buttons link to the same reeds? It may be a rather bizarre and extreme space saving thing... an audio clip would be good.

Mines like that too so it would appear standard

Ah, so it's something specific to the instrument.  Thanks.
