Poll: Tune of the Month for March 2010
« on: February 21, 2010, 01:24:05 PM »

Where has the month gone? We're one week away from March already! So, here's this month's poll for Tune of the Month for March with a selection of tunes chosen yet again in a suitably unpredictable, but strangely logical, way.

Theme of the Month has had a disappointing take up this month so far, but we'll give it one more go I think and see if it can do better in March. So... in honour of St David's Day on the 1st of March, the Theme of the Month will be 'Tunes from Wales'. Once again, I'll set up the official posting thread for Tunes from Wales on 1st of March - please hold fire on submissions until then so not as to distract from February's tune and theme.

Cheers,

Clive

That's so hard 4 I suggested so I don't know which to choose (it won't win but I like to show support anyway).

Gorblimey. I like Midnight on the Water on my one row so much I might just Youtube it anyway - but in this poll, here it is, way behind the field. It's so sad I might write to the newspapers. What a sorry reflection on the state of the nation... The youth of today... Decline of moral standards in life generally... Not like it was when I was young... There's nothing to watch on the television anymore... Etc etc rant burble...

Vote for Midnight on the Water, I say!

Not easy to understand the logic in your selection system. :|bl  Would it be possible to explain who gets the nod and who doesn't?

Cheers :|glug

And as I've not heard several of them. Why not post the abc or midi file of them when you put them up. It would make selection a lot easier.

Cheers again. :|glug :|glug

Simple, there isn't any and it's completely arbitrary! But some people may notice that the tune that comes 2nd always makes it into next month's poll, and those that came 3rd or lower (unless close) don't make it into the next poll (because logically, they would presumably be beaten by the one that came second). We then add in a selection of tunes nominated in the past month (or all of them if there's only a few). Finally, we bulk up the numbers with a selection of earlier tunes from different genres to give a decent mix.

And as I've not heard several of them. Why not post the abc or midi file of them when you put them up. It would make selection a lot easier.

Well, I've tried it for a month or two, and it's a lot of work. I think it's better to let those who want to advocate particular tunes to post up an example video/recording/abc of it. A bit of electioneering adds to the fun and is encouraged! If no-one can be bothered to advocate a given tune, it's either very well known, or it wasn't going to win anyway.

Cheers,

Clive

I like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-Vh7P9j_0c

Though it's still somewhat different to my version. Tunes don't half travel when you're having fun...

Vote vote vote :P

I'm with you on this one ukebert....it's an easy song to learn, endless possibilities for variation, and it's quite fun to play. Just learned it last week, and played it for a group of elderly folks that I entertain once a month. They were tapping toes and bobbing in their seats! Easy, versatile, happy! Good combo for TotM!

That was c**p - I'm not having what he's on!  The tune sounds great on a 4-stop, kinda cajun style.
