Ponder this though if you will, however many times you repeat this piece you have to end it sometime - on a final bar with only one and a half beats.

That's not only OK but necessary, because the whole thing started with a bar of half a beat.
There is no convention in music that everything must end on a whole bar, but there is a convention that a whole piece must be an exact number of bars long, which means that if it starts with a short bar (which is allowed), it must also end with a short bar such that the two short bars add up to a whole bar.*
I've only just noticed your ABC transcription breaks this rule.
You may call it an arbitrary and pointless rule, and you can break it if you like, but please don't call the result a correction...

BTW I don't have the plugins for the Dolmetch site either. I was referring to the paragraph of text which I quoted. Presumably the missing bit was an illustration. Why they couldn't use a simple graphic I have no idea.

Quote
(Ollie) a first and second time bar would be "correct"
No... neither correct nor necessary.

*of course all this goes out of the window if it's by someone like Stravinsky that changes time signature every 2 bars...

Sorry about thread drift, thanks for moving all the argument somewhere else
But.. with all due respect, I'd like to offer this which is how Nick wrote it.

Well I thought I'd post this:
Choose Cock Of the North because its a tune I always seem to fail at and I need the motivation to focus. Plus I'd love to see all the different interpretations from the different styles. And its the only tune I've ever attempted a non folkie has recognized...how weird is that? Also I think its a useful tune to 'learn'.

Well, I've had to vote for the Plane Tree. I didn't recognise any of the tunes by name, but it seems I know this one as 'Schottisch a Bethanie'.

Never played it on a melodeon, but I learnt it on the Anglo concertina a few years ago.

The idea of learning it was to bring a smile to my eldest daughter - Yes - you guessed.... Bethany.

In that case, all's forgiven . If your tune wins out, we'll all play for Bethany  ;D :||: :|||: :||: :|||: :||: :|||: ;D

Thanks.

What a lovely idea. I'll tell her and she'll be well chuffed.

There's a tune called Bethany's Waltz too, which one of our local sessionaires has been teaching us.
(By Jenna Reid, it seems)

Now, will we see lots of tactical voting to ensure that Skirmish wins? :P

Not easy to understand the logic in your selection system. :|bl  Would it be possible to explain who gets the nod and who doesn't?

Simple, there isn't any and it's completely arbitrary! But some people may notice that the tune that comes 2nd always makes it into next month's poll, and those that came 3rd or lower (unless close) don't make it into the next poll (because logically, they would presumably be beaten by the one that came second). We then add in a selection of tunes nominated in the past month (or all of them if there's only a few). Finally, we bulk up the numbers with a selection of earlier tunes from different genres to give a decent mix.

As Cock of the North and Skirmish both had very close scores will there be a rematch in the next poll?

Yep, I expect so unless a clutch of really good nominations come along!

Cheers,
