I think I've managed to track this tune down - It sounds like it's called Les Novis, and goes with another Mazurka, La Toinon.  It appears on a CD of Stephane's of October 2009 called 'Douce', but access to it seems restricted.

While Stephane's website is no longer showing Douce for sale, this CD is still available on French amazon, www.amazon.fr - in fact, last time I looked, all his CDs were. Delivery costs makes the price a little eye watering, but I expect his CDs will be very scarce in years to come, so get them while you can.

Clive, I wasn't saying the CD wasn't available (indeed it sounds well worth getting, even at its high price), it's just that the clip is very short, and I found a note to say that you can't buy the whole tune outside France.  Also I didn't manage to find any notation for the tune anywhere - it doesn't seem to be included in the Italian website.  I don't know if anyone's had more luck?

Years ago, when I had just got my first 'box' I asked you at a session in Castle Camps 'how do you play without getting it wrong all the time'?
You said 'you have to practice till you get it right and then you have to practice till you don't get it wrong' !!!
:|bl blimey, what a smug git I was! (was?...)
I heard it originally as the definition of the difference between an amateur and a professional.
Those Castle Camps sessions were good, while the magic lasted.
I've ordered "Douce" from amazon.fr

If anyone is trying to learn this tune I think it will be the 'B' part which is the tricky bit.
The 'A' part is a bit easier.
I am not playing the correct notes in the 'B' part of my Youtube recording. I blame my ears ;o)
Anyway, here is the 'B' part in C (the right way).

C/A/E x 2 with Am chord then B/E/D with G chord
A/F/C x2 with F chord then G/E/B with Em chord
A/F/A X 2 with Dm chord
A/C/A x 2 with Am chord
A/E/A x 2 with Dm chord
G

Hope that makes sense ;o)

My copy of 'Douce' arrived in the post today!  :||: It's quite lovely - it's been playing non-stop all morning. Quality of playing by all 4 players (it's Stephane+violin+clarinet+bass) = superb (though once or twice the violin part makes me wince, but I think it's played like that deliberately!); recording quality = fine (nothing exceptional, but good enough - it's a live recording, and I'm not sure it was ever meant for CD release when it was recorded).

I've tried playing Les Novis using the above note chart (thanks very much Roland!) - blimey, those octaves make it hard when you've only got little hands! Fantastic tune.

Cheers,

Clive

I keep playing this tune over and over. I could play it all night, I think it is lovely. It took me a little while but I searched for 'Les Novis' and I find that it means 'The Newly Weds'.  ;o)
I'll record for youtube soon when I get the time.

I've worked out and learnt this Mazurka in CF now sort of (F row i guess fundamentally with a lot of row swopping to get all the chords)  what key was stephane originally playing? ..i.e what key is that box?
I'm still struggling a bit with the hand stretching to get the notes on the B music! and is it called 'Les Novis' -  'The Newly Weds'
Its such a nice tune!

I'm pretty sure it's F/Bb, a tone below a conventional G/C. It's in the same key on the CD too. And yes, I too am finding the 'don't use little finger much' "technique" in my playing is coming back to bite me in that B music.  :-[

Hi,
Stephane Delicq is playing in Bb. Yes Derek, Les Novis does mean the newly-weds.
I need some dancers ;o).
Anyway, I have recorded it again with the new, corrected bass line.
I didn't think my first go was too far out but it wasn't right so :-

yep thats good! .. i;ve nearly got it now .
BTW You need to cross the row to get the treble note on the pull to get the right 2nd chord!! 8)  ... makes it really sound sweet then!
thanks derek

Took the plunge and bought the three I don't have.  And delivery ain't cheap. One at Eu3.40, and a pair sent together charged a rather strange Eu7.80 ???  (Perhaps an extra euro for sellotape?) All plus VAT  :-\

They seem to be available on Amazon UK....at least I've ordered 3 titles from there, and Amazon say that they've been sent...
