Hello everyone!

Here touting for business again ;)

Squeezemaster: Give us a call to chat it through, my direct line is in the 1st post. We're not here to push a sale, we're here to offer the best service possible and if the insurance isn't right for you at least you can make an informed decision. As you've noticed there are a fair few pitfalls with home insurance.

Squeezy i can understand your slight skepticism with regards to touting on a forum, but these are often the best ways to openly discuss matters with fellow musicians. You are absolutely correct that we're very keen on introducing ourselves to the niche corners of the market. From the knowledge we've gained over the years it appears to be groups like Melnet that appreciate and value the personal service we provide, and we also pick up some handy contacts for repairs along the way!

With regards to the policy wording, we have had the very same basic wording since our British Reserve days (if it 'aint broke, ay?) so plan to continue in a similar fashion. If there are any changes in any wording we will highlight this to you at the time of renewal, as we like to make sure the policy is suitable for your needs.

Big thanks to everyone for their support and if there is any more questions, please fire away!

Cheers
Joe

I can't help but contrast the service that Newmoon seem keen to promote to that suffered by Jeff on the other thread...

What about a job lot on all my instruments in Sweden ? I travel a lot too.

Can't fill out the form on your website because it doesn't accept my post code.

Joe - I can see that my post might have read pretty negatively!  That is entirely due to my rather negative approach to insurance as a whole rather than your company which was an absolute delight to deal with on the phone while I was on the road (it wasn't yourself I dealt with I think, but Andrew and Paul).  My negative approach comes from my general experience with insurance, the previous experience I mentioned and several other non-instrument related ones too.  Thanks for the re-assurance on your commitment to not playing the game the way Pavilion did!

To readdress the balance I have over £18,000 worth of instruments insured with Newmoon - a sum I think most would struggle to come up with to replace instruments out of their own pockets - and I need my instruments for my job!  The premiums seem very competitive and the cover appears to be very realistic for a musician, full-time, part-time, or hobbyist.

In some cases you need to work out whether saving up for a replacement in the case of a disaster is a better option than taking out insurance which is a gamble on both your part and the insurers - in this case for me, it was a no-brainer, and for that I am very grateful for touting on the forum as I wouldn't have picked you up on the radar otherwise.

Cheers

Whilst household insurance does often cover instruments it is worth checking whether there is an overall limit for cover.  You may think that you have little of value in your house but if you have a flood (our case) or a fire it is surprising how it all adds up.

Likewise (voice of experience from floods) check what your out of house expenses are.  £10,000 may sound a lot but by the time you've been moved out and back in, put animals in kennels (because rented houses won't allow them) and paid umpteen months rent whilst your house is rebuilt it doesn't go that far.

One last piece of advice.  If you have an LP collection of aging classics (or Leader/Trailer) make a list of them and keep it somewhere safe outside your house.  Otherwise you may find your insurer offers you a pound an LP because "LPs are now out of date".

Good advice Steve!

If you're luck enough to have a home insurer that is willing to cover the instruments then great, but its always adviseable to ring them and ask!

Thank you all for your help with my melodeon insurance decision.

I made a few calls and put my instrument in the capable and friendly hands of New Moon.

Thank you Joe for your time listening to all my questions.

I've just re-insured with Newmoon too; they were friendly and helpful. I had an expensive guitar habit, now followed by an enthusiasm for melodeons; they saved me something like £170 on my annual policy, so well worth the call! Thanks Joe!

Do you offer "performance" policies on musical instruments..
such as when ordering an accordeon of a specific color and specifications and a delivery date... will you pay up when the builder fails to perform to his/her contract ?

Hi Jeff,

1st of all i am aware of you're current plight regarding a certain box, and wish you the best of luck with it all.

2ndly: no its not an insurance that we or anyone else offers for that matter. The only insurance policy that may cover would be on the makers side in this instance - and he/she would reclaim the cost of correcting any mistakes mad - of course this relies them admitting a mistake in the 1st instance. There is no way that you can insure yourself against 3rd party botch jobs i'm afraid.

I take it you only offer this kind of indemnity to those in the UK?  Does anyone know of an insurer that does this kind of thing in the States?

Hi Drew,

We've had a few question re: insurance in the US

The best answer is to ask your local broker, as the laws for insurance vary so much from state to state no 1 company has the ability to cater for everyone

Hi Chaps,

Festival season is coming up, and as i know a lot of people are involved in local festivals of all descriptions, i thought i'd mention that we now handle events insurance. Doesn't matter how big or small i'd love to be of service!

Thanks All!!

Does you do public liability for bands, not for a specific event?
