Hi Theo,

yes indeed. we do need to insure a piece of equipment along side the public liability insurance, but that's generally very reasonable and we are very competitive on the liability cover.

Hi All!

Just a quick note that as of today we will be moving all our insurance to Hiscox

Nothing will change with the cover, or the way we run things - but i think you'll agree it a much better name to have behind us and gives us a few more options.

All the best

Feels like a long time since i've been on!

Just a quick note: another year of unchanged premiums and terms.

We have also recently launched our "Band Aid" policy which is a specialist policy for full size bands.

If you have any questions or need any advice on insurance matters, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Kind Regards
Joe

I was going to ask about your "Band Aid", policy but it seems to be for brass bands...

It can be applied to any band, its just marketed to brass bands for the moment as the market for them is much larger than any other (plus i'm a brass player so nerrr  ;) )

I also use Newmoon for my personal instruments and my business insurance. I saved a fortune over my previous insurers and it is a more comprehensive cover.

As I don't actually understand insurance I have a silly question.
I don't fit entirely in either the 'natural' or the 'harmonic' criteria. So I have no idea which to choose. I don't even know the proper value of my total instruments (I know what I paid for them originally but not what the value is now).
Is there some kind of middle ground?

Look at what's actually covered by each policy and decide what cover you actually need.
I would guess if you are doing regular gigs for money you need the "Harmonic" product, if you aren't you're a "natural".
For example you only need third party cover if you are playing professionally - that's for stuff like somebody suing you because you were playing in a band and a loudspeaker stand fell over and injured them.

Value of instruments is based on what you'd have to pay to replace them with something equivalent if the original was lost/stolen/destroyed etc. You do have to come up with some notion of current market value if a valuation is required for insurance. It might mean current price of a new replacement - check with the insurer if they have a "new for old" policy - that means you claim for the cost of a new instrument of the same make and model even if the one you lost wasn't new.

They've been watching the topic, but it might be worth phoning them and getting the official view. Then you can post more specific box-related  :|||: queries here if you still have any.

Hi ladydetemps :)

Basically as Anahata explains. The biggest thing will be that the "natural" product will only cover collections up to £2000 (maximum single value of £1500) The "harmonic" is unrestriced.

Try not to get too caught up in the professional and non profession pitches, its just marketing jargen!

In regards to values again, as Anahata  says its the cost to replace said items. You can value them compared to their current equivalent (which i appreciate most will not have) or what they would cost to replace on the open market.

Keep in mind we don't just run off and replace things, if a total loss claim were made we would keep  you 100% informed on any actions proposed and you would always make the final call.

If going by the cost of replacing old for new..then I'd be over £2000 Just on one item. I suppose that's what you get buying a costalotti castagnari.  ;)
(I've got 4 things to insure - and one of the items I only know the new price in dollars!?).

Would it be covered if I were to stay in a tent for example?

This thread has reminded me that I need to get insurance sorted for the summer.

Am I right in understanding that the "natural" policy only covers me within 30 miles of my house? That seems like a pretty significant limitation.

Also what about cases and straps? Are these covered? Should I just include them in the total value of the instrument?

Hi Jim,

Yes the Natural policy is restricted to 30 miles of your home address. The Natural product really was designed for yound children going to and from school. In reality the premium differences are tiny.

Cases and straps etc are covered as unspecified accessories so are covered with out declaration or charge.

Let me know if you have any queries

Hello Chaps.

Just a quick bump.

I know many people on her dabble in repairs - so just wanted to advise Newmoon have now launched a specialist policy for NAMIR Repairers, covering: stock, goods in trust, goods in transit, tools, and liabilities.

If anyone wants anymore info please fire away!

Best Regards
