buttons / speed...
« on: April 25, 2010, 06:17:46 PM »

ive noticed that i can play repeated notes alot faster on my gabby than on my soprani, im sure that the buttons on the gabbanelli are alot flatter and on the soprani are slightly more bulbous. has anyone on here noticed a difference in button "speed" on other boxes?

Very much so. It has lon been one of the things I'd look for when I buy a box. I don't personally think the contour of the keys makes any difference though .. it's what's underneath

Agree with Chris,  its the quality of the reeds and how well they are set up.

It might be possible to make some improvement to the response if the reeds are not set optimally.  If playing softly do you hear air sounds before the reeds speak?   If so there may be scope for improvement, but it is mainly an issue of reed quality and the general design of the box, for which there is not much to be done.

Changing low notes is a relatively straightforward job.  Any competent accordion tech should be able to oblige.

agree that the set up & quality of reeds ( & valves) is the most important factor for fast response & smooth opperating qulaity mechanism is also important.  However not everybody can afford such a box & to pour cold water on the constantly stated need to "upgrade"  a bog standard pokerwork can repeat surpisingly fast in the right hands (?fingers) & a slightly tweeked pokerwork  can be 'faster' than the playing ability of some who spend vast amounts 'upgrading' in the hope that the box will do it for you!
