"From Red Square to George Square"
« on: April 30, 2010, 02:10:33 PM »

Here's a nice tune by our recently-joined member BCC#er, from his visit to Scotland in 2007. "From Red Square to George Square" is a stirring 4/4 pipe march. George Square is the main square in Glasgow. We play the tune with "Murdo's Wedding" and "The Dark Waters of Loch Sheil" (Fergie MacDonald) in a set suitable for a Gay Gordons. In this version for accordion, I've put in some very basic chords.

Published with the composer's permission.

I just gave it  a go on the practice chanter, as my former pipe major would say, it's a wee tune.
Thanks for posting

Have downloaded and it's gone into the 'learning' file! Thanks for putting it up Bil - and thanks to the composer too!

I've taken the liberty of transcibing this into abc so people can hear the midi playback - nice tune.

Very good, except for the speed. 140 paces per minute is Light Infantry pace ("short, sharp, s**t-hot steps"), whereas a bagpipe march would be about 112 paces per minute (see Wikipedia), and this tune sounds much better at that pace.

I had no idea what the tempo would be Bill so just set it at a speed that suits many tunes, I've now edited the abc file accordingly.
