Great stuff j.w! You can come and play for my side any time you like!

Here's my first submission - http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=20160 Step and Fetch Her/Trunkles played on my trusty Pokerwork.
Nice one, Ollie. You are obviously watching the dancers 'in your mind' as you play! You can tell its a young team by the height of their capers!!!

Idbury Hill is one of my favourites and this is a great recording of it.
Thanks Anahata.

I love TOTM and ThOTM. Interpretations that inspire, performances that fill you with awe or simply surprise you. Truly wonderful stuff.

Yes, Ian, I think it must be from the 50's or 60's (could it be earlier?). Looks to be made by hand in some little shop, not much is machine made, a bit primitive on the inside. If there's interest, I'd be glad to post some pics in the Makes and Models category. Please excuse my thread drift :|bl

A trio of Cotswold morris tunes:

Wheatley Trunkles - a very non-Cotswold tune from a neglected Cotswold Tradition, played on my Mike Rowbotham restored ~1930 Hohner Pressed Wood.

I have enjoyed listening to your tunes a few times Lester but am particularly intrigued by this little tune which has an interesting rhythm (to my non dancers ear, anyway!). Does 'Wheatley Trunkles' actually mean anything?

The dance comes from the village of Wheatley, near Oxford. Trunkles is the name of the dance, though this version bares no resemblance to the other Trunkles tunes from other villages. Here is a clip of the dance - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMn0wXkNYl0

It is a killer to dance due to all that high level waving, makes it v hard to breathe.

I never realised Bean Setters Brackely was the same tune (more or less) as Lass of Dallogill, a common Longsword tune. Very well played Andy!  (:)

[pendant mode on]

They are of course not morris jigs (dances for 1 or 2 dancers) they are are morris set dances (dances for 6 or 8 or possibly more dancers) that just happen to be in 6/8 time    ;D

[pendant mode off]

For me, Cotswold music is the ultimate feel-good music ;D

Andy, don't be afraid to stray onto the subdominant (In D, the G chord) from time to time ;)

Note to Leader of the Pedant's Revolt:

if a tune makes people want to jig up and down can we still call it a jig even if it's not actually, technically, a jig?  ;D
